Is anybody getting any tv reception up at the lake? I tried hooking up my old tv with the new converter box up at the deer shack in McGregor, but couldn’t get ANYTHING! If anybody has any tips or tricks let me know. I guess we may have to go to the dish next year. It sure is nice having a tv in the fish house.

With the conversion to digital signals last summer–reminiscent of the expansion of CB radio to 40 channels years ago–have heard there came a small reduction in TV signal power, namely those areas that used to get good reception at 70 miles from their tower found that circle reduced to 60 miles (or so).
Would like to hear by PM Lake locations and county where
recption has either changed or stayed same. Would be helpful if you could ID the approx location of the tower that serves you.
There was a lot of talk on news last few days about free broadcast TV disappearing in the future. By the way, you can hook up Satelite TV at your home and take the service with you.

Not digital, just an old 13 inch color. I couldn’t get anything during deerhunting. I need my tv!!!! Otherwise I may have to converse with people and that just bothers me!

We had the same problem with the tv in the shack at the red door this summer. Thought it might fix itself when the leaves fell, but no go.

We are halfway up the East side of Mille Lacs, by Hunters Point. Our antennae is aimed towards the Twin Cities, like it was before. When it is overcast, we get Ch 9 & 11, and a few others (This Old House is ALWAYS on one) and a couple kiddie channels. If it is clear skies, forget about the Twin Cities stations….

I got a good amount of experience with the switch over, as I don’t have cable in the cities, I’m using the off air HD but I have DTV in the fish house. I put an antenna in my attic and the neighbors attic and I found that the signal is very, very directional, within a couple of degrees I can get all stations, or non. Use a compass to get you close, then you the signal meter built into your new TV to dial itin. I’m able to pick up every broadcasted signal, and I’m like 35 miles from the tower in shore view (crow flys).

Use antennaweb.org, and it will tell you which antenna you need to have to get both the UHF/VHF, and the distance you are from the tower.

This winter I was going to bring up the “Square shooter” and mess with it on the lake, and see what I can pick up, using a new HDTV, so no converter boxes. I found a big loss of signal in the converter box hook ups.
