This is how it was for us last week, fished them everyday. 5-7am it was a little on the slow side. 7-11am they turned on! I think the water temps need to come up a little for them to get real active. They stayed hungry right through the day, you know how hot/high sun it was all last week, scorching! The bite stayed good through that but we had to change tactics, going from surface baits or shallow cranks earlier in the day to deeper cranks and tubes to cover the deep edges and troughs. Our biggest fish came mid day, deeper water 6-8′ but you could still cath the smaller ones up in 3-4′. Once the day started to wind down, the fishing went with it. I’d call prime time from 8-4pm, with a little lull mid day, at least that’s the times we had our best bites going.
The bite is really good right now. We had 20-25 fish half days with several over 18″ up to 20″. Get in the right spot and it’s every cast, we had spurts it was 3-4 fish in a row, every cast. Those bites, we got on a couple, came 10-noon or so.
The evening bite isn’t as good as the morning/day bite imho. Sure we’ve had days it is good, but it seems it’s just better mid morning and mid day, at least for us.
