Since Brad and Tuck covered the open water basin trolling report already, I’ll leave my mini report here.
I was up this past weekend on the pond doing a lil of everything. Stacie, our buddy Lumes and I got out for the first planer board trip of the year for me and it showed. As we spent a lot of time covering water trying to locate active fish. I found a few schools starting to bunch up, but they were not very active. We were on the water for almost 5 hours pulling on Saturday and caught a few fish, but far from lighting it up. We ran into (literally) JJ & Tuck and shared the water for 20 minutes or so covering a huge swath as each boat, boated a fish. It was a beautiful day to be on the water on Saturday so the slower fishing really didn’t matter. Sometimes you wonder why fish are in certain spots and why you catch them. Well Tuck and Brad have done a great job with their reports telling you about the Bugs and the Fish following the bugs, baitfish, etc. Take a look at the picture of my crank bait and at the baitfish that was left on my boat from a healthy walleye that was released. Talk about matching the Forage size.
After grilling out for Dinner we headed back out for 2 hours of corking an old favorite mud flat for the Evening Flurry that started about 9 and ended about 10 for us. We got out late and we surveyed the flat edge using my electronics and Lake Master chip and I had noticed the fish were already up on the edge. So we quickly got set up set up on the edge of the flat and Jason boated our first corking fish. We were anchored right on the edge in 23.5’ fow. The actin was good for about an hour like usually around sunset and then went quiet. We headed in only after the bugs picked up around 11 and sat by the Camp Fire and drank a few
Saturday, the weather turned as the wind picked up, the clouds and rain moved in as Stacie and I went out for a few hours in the afternoon to try to locate some more and active schools of fish. We tried some new water and found the same thing. Not a lot of active fish, but did get to scout a few areas I always wanted to check out. One has my interest to go back and see if the fish keep bunching up.
The water temps are a little behind and it shows as the fish are just starting to really bunch up out there. However, it will only get better. And in case you are wondering Brad…. Cheap Sung Glasses still works as that color took every fish but one this past weekend for me. ;grin:
I’ll be back next weekend in full force again!
