A little late, but I just got the pictures uploaded from the camera.

We hit the east side reefs on Friday night and did very well for ourselves … and had only one boat anywhere near us! That was a pleasant change of pace.

We took home 7 or 8 slots that night with 4 or 5 overs. Some very nice, healthy looking (and tasty!) fish. Here are a couple photos from that night with my dad holding a solid over as well as my fiance hooking into a football herself. We all had a great time and the action was fast and furious with the bobbers going down early and often.

Saturday during the day we went crappie and bass fishing and hit the rocks later that night and pull a few more eaters and some overs with bobbers over the shallow rocks … more company on this night, however, making it not quite as splendid an experience as the night before but we still managed some fish and lots of fun.

Sunday I convinced Beth (my fiance) to join me on the long trip from Sunset Bay to the mud flats … after a long journey we began pulling long-snelled Lindy rigs w/ leeches. We were graphing lots of fish on the top and off the edge, but getting them to bite was another story. Only a handful of hits in 4 hours. I got snapped off on one (I had old line on there and was too lazy to change it – won’t happen again!), but the highlight of the day was Beth pulling in her personal best walleye! A nice fat fish just over 26″!

I must admit, for a gal that just started open water angling last summer, she’s got quite a knack for it. And more importantly, she actually enjoys herself and is usually more than willing to join me – I’ve got me a keeper!

Anyways, enjoy the pics and happy fishing on The Pond!

Nice Report and congrats to your fiance for her PB!

How deep were you guys bobbering? I will be up there all next week and am wondering what depth you are seeing for the evening bobber bite.

    Thanks,

We were fishing anywhere from 9-13 feet on heavy rock structure. There were lots of people getting action, but it was funny in that there were specific pockets that were just BLOWING everybody else away. Literally, this boat 30 yards away from us on Sunday night was catching one on every cast. It was amazing (and frustrating to watch!).

Actually, we were not. We were around the Doe Island reef in 9-10 FOW. Sounds like lots of people are having some good eatin’ early this season!

I only asked, cause like you said, boats spot on, would pull one in every 5 minutes. On saturday night, it was my boat. I plugged it into the GPS and sunday night, with little wind, I thought I would “drift” onto “The Spot” but I ended up 22 yards too far west… I then told my cousin, who had his 3 young children with him, to park it 20 or so yards inside of me… they were jerking one after another all night… I pulled 2 10″…. What also was weird, sat night, what wind there was, came out of the W-SW, anchored, the boat would drift NE, but the bobbers would go to the right side of the boat exclusively, South ??? Never had a undertow like that in that spot…

Oh, I hear ya. We were the same way. The wind and/or the “current” shifted about 3 different times on us. It was interesting. And we caught some fish – no complaints there – but the boat just over from us was catching them hand over fist. It was ridiculous! It’s like the fish had a particular path they took to the reef … and the path was right under their boat!

As someone who will be the 1st to say I’m a mediocre at best bobber guy. Riggin’, blades, & cranks are what I dig. So in filling in my bobber skills the self proclaimed “Best Bobber Fisherman on M.L.” told me one night the the key to bobbers is ……… current.
I will be hitting the lake hard this weekend. Time to play vs working.
