The perch bite on Mille Lacs has sure been a pleasant surprise so far this early ice fishing season! I have been on the lake just two times and both trips we have caught some dandy perch. This perch pic that I am posting was just under 12 inches……..I kept 3 of these dandys for supper tonite. We have been catching them in 16-17 feet on the rocks. Today while I was holding up this perch for a picture, I noticed another mark on the Vexilar! With the lack of snow on the lake right now. The visibilty on the bottom in 16 feet of water is really good. Well I looked down the hole and saw a big walleye, looked like it was 2-3 times bigger than the perch I had been catching. This walleye was just swimming around not looking to eat my bait any how. The perch are hitting jigging spoons with a minnow head. The ice depth today on the reef 1/4 mile off shore was 11 inches.

Probably themselves. There are tons of young of the year perch present at times around your bait.
Live bait really attracts them, it appears to be the constant movement.
