In for a bite to eat. Hit the water at 5am with brother Todd. Brisk NW wind, a nice chop to the 49 degree water. Morning temp at 37. Burrr! Drifting the NE sand rigging leeches. Handfull of short bites and shakers that got off. Two cookie cutter males that went 23. (Believe me, they were males… ) One for the box so far.

Seeing a lot of toss backs today. Radio is a mix of “We got a few” or “Still looking for a bite”.

I’ll check back later. Great to be back on Milly!!!

Just had to post in memory of Dean. Hard not to think of him today. Today he would of been out there fishing with you all and having a great time. Fish or no fish he would be having a blast.

Be safe out there on the lake and have a GREAT time!

    Hi Mary,

Yes, Dino’s name has come up a few times this weekend. Sure miss him and Hooks too! Hope everyone is here for the next opener. But ya never know…..

The afternoon bite was definetely better than round one. Four slots and a hand full of overs. The fish are deeper than expected. Our best bite was in that 18-20 foot range. Just an observation. Looked like many boats were getting over slot fish in that 4-1 ratio. No complaints here, lot of fun!

Couple shot from the afternoon run.

It’s a great tradition. Any and all fish left over from the ice fishing or river season get consumed the night before opener. Brings good luck from the fish gods….

Problem with cooking is you never get to try much of the other stuff! Although no one went hungry!!!
I did miss Kooty’s Habenero baked beans. I heard they were pretty darned good, and didn’t last long at all! Maybe he could put those in the Member’s Recipes???

That’s OK…the waiting list is long and legendary. The Linder Bros. are still waiting for theirs as well.

I’ve heard the bears don’t even venture close to you guys! the smell coming from the crapper the morning after a bowl of Kooty’s mean beans would be enopugh to keep anything away!

I’m not a big game tracker, but I think the unmistakable tracks from a small herd of sheep were found near your compound. Most tracks looked like the herd was running, and had a larger distance between foot strikes, but there was one set of track which appeared to be at a casual walk. What was that all about?

Judging by the condition to some of the participants you may be referring to…I don’t believe they would be running as the participants in question had a hard enough time standing, let alone chasing anything larger than 16 ounces.

Although I did hear something outside of a fish house that sounded like a “Yak!”

Ya my partner was a mess this year. Poor kid graduated on Sunday of fishing opener and couldn’t even celebrate. It did keep me in pretty good check though. And he’s pretty handy at lighting the furnace on an empty stomach.
