Ever Seen This Before?

Chad and I hit Mille on Sat and he landed the fish in the pictures (among others). Right behind the gill plate the line was embeded into the skin all the way around the fish. The line had actually grown into the skin. As you can also see, there was about 15′ of tangled up mono that the fish was dragging around for who knows how long. It was a nice healthy 16″+ fish so it didn’t seem to bother him much. One of the weirder catches I’ve seen from the pond….

Before you think what we thought at first, it was not part of a gill net. When he cleaned it he found a split shot still attached and it is mono line that’s covered with scum.

The fishing was very spotty, we punched a ton of holes (in 3 different mud spots) but just couldn’t find a consistant bite. The areas we’ve been fishing this year that haven’t had much for bait fish, have now been over run as well. It’s hard to believe how many 4″ to 6″ perch are out there right now.

One other weird deal from Saturday. We caught 3 tulibee (sp?) on the top edge of a flat (24′) at 5 pm and they came off the bottom, just like a walleye. Don’t these fish usally suspend over deep water? The only think we can figure is there was just the start of a bug hatch going on? We didn’t see any signs of a hatch on the graphs though…Again, weird.

    Till next time, Adam

Reminds me of when some jack leaves a wad of line along the trout stream for me to get caught up in.

The same kind of jack does the same thing in the timber scattered on my home lake. When I get snagged I try to get as close as I can to the hook and pull it out or break it off leaving as little of the evidence that I was even there. But when someone leaves enough line to respool a small reel it really ticks me off.

Some of the trees I fish have line I always get caught in when verticle jigging but I usually an able to get it out, sometimes it takes me longer than I like but I get it out.

6-7 years ago I had some clients out and we were pulling spinners on 3-ways out on the mud. Snagged a lost line that was 3 colors of lead line with about 20 feet of mono tied to a #7 Shad Rap which was snagged in the side of a 27″ walleye. The fish was alive, and seemed fine when we released it, but the water was warm, so who knows if it made it or not. Looked like whoever lost this set up didn’t know how to tie a segmentmented lead core piece to his mono.

This is the only one I have in this ‘puter, and the only evidence is my co-pilot hanging from my belt.

In Jack’s defense, I think I remember reading that he pulled blades in the PWT two years ago and were off the water by noon.

Yeah, thats true. Had Derek Johnson in the boat with me that second day. We had the second largest bag that day. Rigged the north sand day 1, blades day 2, and blades and then bobbers day 3.

What I wouldn’t have done for just another 3 ounces in that tourney!

I saw Jack using his bow mount early last summer just south of BP. Didn’t get close enough to see it but someone later told me he was pulling Thills, a split shot and a 1/16 oz thumper jig at .80 to 1.2 in place of a rig or blades. Jack is breaking new ground out there….bobber trolling.

Just ribbin ya Jack, see you next week.
