Have you been checked out on Mile Lacs by a CO this year? I usually get checked once or twice but haven’t seen anyone this year.

Once on the water by a actual CO. and a few times by the folks doing the creel surveys at the landings. I’ve yet to get checked on the ice this year, or any year.

I’ve been checked on the ice twice in about 25 years that I can remember. Crazy part about getting checked last year was that it was during an absolute blizzard. My buddies and I were shocked there was anybody else out fishing on the whole lake. And here shows up a couple COs in their truck. We were dumbfounded as we NEVER see them on the ice and this was the time we did. Weird.

I have not been checked on the ice on Mille Lacs in the last 3 years. During the open water season I come in contact with a creel survey guy about 2-3 times a year when coming back from fishing for the day.

However, I have been checked twice in the last week in stearns county. They seem to be active in stearns, which is good.

I got checked yesterday out of The Red Door. CO Luke Croat. Nice guy. Pretty friendly. He’s checked me in past years also. Told him I always look for his reports in The Outdoor News Magazine cuffs and collars. I havent seen my name in there yet.

If I remember (seemly tougher the older I get) it was around three years ago for me. CO on a sled. Everything was fine. I wonder why there aren’t more checks as I heard a stat that there are more than 2 million hours of fishing recorded during an ice season.

Last time I was checked on the ice was 3 years ago. CO knocked, came in, looked around, and started to write me up for using 4 lines. Had to explain my wife was in the closet using the toilet and she wasn’t coming out till he left. He chuckled, left, and I got my chewed on for letting him in while she was in there.

Funny…..in all my time fishing hard and soft water, I’ve never been checked by a CO on Mille Lacs. I’ve seen them on occasion.

Jack, are you SURE you weren’t using 4 lines by yourself while your wife was using the bathroom?

A bit hypocritical to state using multiple lines is hard on a fishery, isn’t it???

    Just ribbing you Jack.
