A BIG Red Door “thank you” to all who took part in the 18th Annual Red Door Walleye Tournament this past weekend! And a BIG thank you to all who volunteered to help make it all happen. Especially to “Hot-Dog Jimmy” who showed up with his fancy hot-dog cookin’ stand, greeting the hungry anglers with a free lunch after a long day on the water.

Walleye fishing reports continue to hold up in the “pretty good” category. The numbers of fish being caught over 20 inches seems to have gone down but the keeper size seems to be getting more prominent. Most of the fish taken this past weekend came on live bait rigs of sorts but some of the best catches of keepers came on leadcore and cranks of sorts. One team for sure, caught limits of keepers on the Knox Point rocks very shallow. Those shallow fish put them in the top ten each day. But most of the fish came from the mudflats and even some came from the gravel further south.

Muskie action continues to grow on the north shore. We heard of two being caught this weekend and many follows. A week of warm temps should get that action going better soon.

Smallmouth? Very good reports as usual. Knox Point rock humps and ridges and west on the rocks to Doc’s Resort are putting out good smallmouth numbers and size.

THANK YOU to all who made The Red Door their Mille Lacs headquarters this past weekend. We sure look forward to seeing you all again soon! Be sure to call and book your lodging for summer and fall muskie hunting and full moon fall walleye trolling soon.

Someone walked into the office this past weekend and asked if we had any “houses available” for the night. For a split second, the cabin reservation book got a glance. But then we quickly realized he was saying, tongue in cheek, he wanted to rent a fish house. Of course, he was relating to how COLD it was this past weekend. Again!

Cold temps didn’t keep anyone away this past weekend. And we say THANK YOU to all of you who headquartered at The Red Door. Although the cold front and north winds made fishing harder, the bite for walleyes wasn’t all bad. Seemed everyone had a few and some, again, had limits of eaters. Pretty good for late July!

Muskie fishing the past week has been tough for most. Some went 2-3 days without seeing a fish. But other reports included good action with a few hook-ups and quite a few follows. All the good reports we heard came from west of Knox Point in the Gun Club area. The deep weedline from the Junction east to Doc’s Resort is holding quite a few muskies according to what we are hearing. A report from East Flat of a small walleye being chomped on by a muskie last Friday shows the big fish are scattered all over. Muskie action compared to last year is already much better and looks like it could be shaping up to be a big late summer and fall splash.

THANK YOU to all of you for a great week at The Red Door! We hope to see you again soon and look forward to being your host for the late summer and fall muskie fishing and the late fall, full moon, big walleye run.

How was fishing at Red Door this weekend? The telling tale is always the gut buckets in the cleaning house. And there were quite a few full buckets!

We appreciated and say THANK YOU to all who chose us for your weekend Mille Lacs fishing home away from home.

As other reports here are showing as well, the walleye catching for many was pretty good again this past week in Red Door country. Plenty of keepers made up the action. Although it wasn’t great by any means, most had plenty for meals and some had limits for the weekend.

Muskie hunters reported “tough” fishing. We did hear of a couple good fish getting caught in the neighborhood over the weekend but most were reporting the need for warm weather to get the big fish really jumping. Deep weedlines to the west produced the most action again this week. Casting away from the weeds over the deep water produced what catches we heard of. “High forties” was the typical size seen and caught.

Knox Point rock kicked out at least 2 22″ smallies this past week that we heard of. Walleye bobbering on the rocks produced big catches of smallies mixed in with a few walleyes from the shallows.

THANK YOU to everyone for the opportunity to be your hosts this past week at The Red Door! See ya’ll soon, we hope. And be sure to get your lodging plans to us as soon as you can for the fall. If the summer weather patterns hold, it could be good ealier than normal for the night trolling. Two full moon runs this fall?

Just got a report of a 52″ muskie caught out front this morning. And a report from 2 guys trolling on the flats that had 10 walleyes with 4 keepers, 3 too big and 3 too small between 7am. and 10am. Windy and cold and fish still biting!

It’s great to report yet another good week of weather and fishing in Red Door Country.

Walleye fishing has been pretty good all week on the north flats. The best bite has been daytime on lead core rigs and small crank baits. Reports of 50/50 on the keepers versus the little ones and big ones has been consistent. One report of 22 walleyes in 3 hours was the best we have heard this week. 9 of those were keepers. Spinner fishermen have had okay luck too in the same areas.

Muskie fishing is starting to heat up. Last weekend several reports of good action came from our area. During the week, at least one good fish has been caught each day. Several of the fish the past few days have been 50 inches or more with the biggest being 53 inches. Last weekend follows were quite good but this week for the amount of fish caught, the follows have been low. We need warmer weather for the big fish to get into full swing. Muskie fishing pressure has been and is very low so this should be a good time to get out onto your favorite spots!

Smallmouth fishermen continue to hammer fish on the rocks and also catching a few walleyes in the process. The ratio of big walleyes mixed in with the smallies is pretty good. Many 25” to 27” walleyes have taken crank baits being cast by the smallmouth fishermen. This week we haven’t heard of any smallies over 20” but many in the 18” range.

The outlook for the weekend is for quite cool temps again and north winds. The north mudflats should be good producers in those conditions. Muskie fishing conditions on the north end should be good too with the off shore wind. We do have some openings in the lodging department this weekend so any last minute plans we can handle!

THANK YOU to all who allow us the opportunity to host your Mille Lacs fishing ventures!!!

Recent reports? “Spotty”. Big wind on Saturday kept many from any chance at good fishing but Sunday turned out to be a great day.

Most reports from the Saturday walleye fishermen on the north shore were “tough”. A few drifted spinners on the tops of the flats and did well but most chose to not fight the wind out deep. A couple good catches, including one boat that had a limit for three, came from trolling crank baits along the edges of the Knox Point rock humps and ridges, in 6- to 10 ft. Those same boats caught many smallmouth in the 16 to 20 inch class. Walleye reports from Sunday were much better. Some boats limited out trolling the mudflats with leadcore.

Muskie fishermen had a tough weekend as we hear it. Warm temps coming in later this week should finally get that fishing in full swing.

THANK YOU to everyone who head-quartered at The Red Door this weekend. We have some lodging openings coming up so be sure to call us if you have Mille Lacs plans! We look forward to making your trip a great stay.

Thank you to all who have visited us at the Red Door this past week. We look forward to seeing all of you, again, soon! Lodging is starting to fill for the fall full moons and late muskie bite so if the plans are in the works for a north shore venture, be sure to give us a shout. THANK YOU!!

The walleye bite continues to be steady and especially good for this time of year. The north flats are still putting out keeper fish. More muskie action is being talked about too. Boats trolling Shadraps during the day along shore in the Knox Point area are getting a mix of walleyes and many smallies.

Looks like a “summer” weekend coming up on the weather front in Red Door country.

With a big wind blowing from the south, and then from the west, fishing traffic has been almost non-existent around us the past 3 days. The annual Brainerd drag races kept The Red Door busy on shore for the weekend but the walleyes, muskies and smallies had the weekend off for the most part.

The handfull of boats that did venture out over the weekend had mixed reports. One boat would come in with “one fish”, the next would come in saying “we got 10 and kept four”. All the walleye fishing was done on the flats over the weekend even though the big waves would maybe have had a good shallow bite on the rocks available. The best reports came from crank bait trollers again.

The coming weekend looks better from the weather man. We have some lodging openings for the weekend for any of your last minute Mille Lacs plans. Give us a shout!

THANK YOU to everyone of our guests the past few days! Race fans and fishing fans!!

We spent a little time working the shallow rocks yesterday with some luck. Trolling smaller brown flicker shads over the rock humps near shore produced walleyes. I would bet if it wasnt for the wind this would not of worked as well. There where plenty of small mouth mixed in on this bite to.

The past weekend report still includes pretty good walleye results on the north flats. Saturday the gut buckets looked pretty full from daytime anglers fishing the flats, mostly talking about trolling crank baits. Sunday was very bumpy on our end of the lake and kept most on shore. A couple boats had good action on the shallow rocks out from Knox Point, boating lots of smallies and limits of good eater walleyes.

We had muskie hunters staying with us the past week that saw “spotty” action. They fished mostly at night. Very little muskie pressure these days. As usual, they were pretty tight lipped on their fishng success.

THANK YOU to everyone that stayed with us this past week as well as to those who used our ramp! We really appreciate being able to host your Mille Lacs visits.

We have lodging openings so if you have Mille Lacs plans anytime in the near future, be sure to give us a call! THANK YOU!!

Walleye reports from the weekend, despite a windy start, are still pretty good! Limits of keepers were common on the north flats. Although we have been hearing about most success coming from trolling, many this past weekend caught fish on livebait rigs of sorts. Most included using spinner combos.

Mixed reports from muskie anglers. Some saw a few fish and some not much. We did hear of at least two big ones caught by Red Door anglers over the weekend.

THANK YOU to everyone who visited us the past few days!

The long range forecast, maybe too early to be sure of, is for a nice warm Labor Day weekend.

Give us a call for lodging info. Fall is close, so be sure to give us a call for your lodging needs as the full moon bite is coming soon!

Okay, Labor Day is history so it’s fall!!

The bite this past weekend for the walleyes, for the most part, was much tougher than the past several weeks. This past Friday, nice limits were brought in by several boats but over the weekend, limits were scarce for daytime anglers. Action at night was pretty good for some. Most caught a lot of smallmouths and a few boats had several walleyes. With fall type weather not far away, that should only get better.

Muskie anglers either left without reporting to us or reported seeing a few fish with not much serious action. We do know one boat caught three and lost two. So were the “quiet” muskie anglers hiding success? Maybe.

Most importantly, we want to thank all of you who allowed us to be your hosts this past week and weekend. Be sure to keep us in mind when making your lodging plans for the fall trolling bite as well as any grouse hunting and deer hunting plans you are still making for the fall. Be sure to keep in mind, with all the hard maple trees in our area, the fall colors are second to none by late September. Great fall photo opts in Red Door country!

We look forward to seeing you all in downtown Wealthwood very soon!!

Weekend fishing reports from The Red Door kind of foggy? Yes, it was foggy! Very foggy. Both Saturday and Sunday dawned a very soupy, calm day.

Walleye fishing, for those that GPS’st it both mornings was okay, according to the few reports we heard. One couple pulling lead core both mornings in the fog had 6 keepers, 4 too big and 1 too small Saturday and 3 keepers, 5 too big and 2 too small on Sunday. Like last week, this report came from east of us in 22′ to 27′ foot of water along shore. After the fog cleared, the bite and the fish disappeared. Night fishermen both Friday and Saturday had big action on smallmouth with about a keeper walleye per angler average mixed in. One lady landed a fat 28 incher Saturday night, anchored with a bobber and leech combo in 22′ out from the point.

Quite a few muskie boats were out, but no one was or is talking. Good action kept quiet or nothing to report?

The first frost is predicted for the 22nd of this month. Then maybe the fall trolling will get into full swing.

THANK YOU to everyone for being a part of The Red Door this past weekend! There were many fish stories shared while sitting around the fire-pits by each cabin Saturday night.

We have lodging openings for both the motel and cabins in the near future, so if you plan on a Mille Lacs venture, be sure to give us a call!

Pretty quiet these days in The Red Door country.

Daytime walleye fishing over the past weekend saw very few boats but night fishermen made up for the lack of day pressure. Reports were very good numbers of keepers at night in the deeper water, either along the edge of the rocks in 17′ to 23′ a half mile either side of us or deep water off the edge of the north flats in 30 plus ft.

Only one boat out today through our place. None yesterday. But the report was great! Leadcore to the east of us put 4 limits of keepers in the boat and a few overs and small ones to boot.

Cooler temps next week? Full moon on the way? We’re waiting and ready for you!

The weekly fishing report is on our webpage now! We had a boat go out this morning and trolled the deep water with lead core and the three had the 12 keepers and 6 too big with four too small in three hours.

Most fishing reports from the past few days have blown away.
The only day that has been fishable for most was this past Saturday. One boat that trolled daytime shallow water (12ft.) reported a handfull of walleyes, a few smallies and one 13lb. northern. Another daytime report from the same day said they got “some keepers” down on the sand around Carlsona on spinners tipped with leeches or crawlers. Night fishermen on the flats and deep shoreline areas did very well Friday and Saturday night. One group of four staying with us had their limits on one of the launches out from the north shore Saturday night. Since then, the wind has driven everyone off the lake from this area.

Grouse hunters in the area are reporting seeing some birds and getting a few, as the leaves are still hanging on too thick to see well yet. The next two weeks should be peak time to come up here and see the great hard maple leaf colors. We have great hiking trails right out the cabin doors!

THANK YOU to everyone who visited us this past weekend! We look forward to seeing all of you soon as the temps cool down and the fall fishing kicks in. We do have lodging openings during most of October.

Not a fishing report(yet) but we just want everyone to know that this week looks like the bright maple leaf colors are gonna be at peak levels in The Red Door area this week and coming weekend. Bring the camera–for the big fish and wonderland of colors!

We do have lodging available in both the cabins and motel.

It’s fall! The weather and the full moon night trollers are proof of that.

With the exception of Sunday night, clouds kept the moon from lighting up the walleyes in our area. Most reports were on the tough side over the weekend from the night time fishermen. And the deep crank bait bite slowed as well during the day. One boat did report getting a limit of keepers in 22′ on leadcore Saturday just east of our place. Sunday night anglers did find some pretty good numbers of keepers and some too big also. Talk from Monday night was only about football, not walleyes.

Dress warm this weekend! But if cold water is the key, the shallow shoreline walleyes should be hot.

THANK YOU to everyone who made The Red Door your Mille Lacs headquarters this past week. And we look forward to seeing all you night owls this coming weekend!

Today we got reports of several muskies caught in the immediate area over the past few days, by muskie fishermen. Nows the time?
