November day bite?

The last couple Novembers (not necessarily full moon times)when I have fished a couple hours before sunset, I have seen a fairly good bite take place pulling cranks on the rocks. According to my records, the times it has excelled has been when water temps were in the low 40’s and there was a healthy population of ciscoes present. Actually, my biggest Mille Lacs fish one year came from about 3:30pm in the afternoon scouting a new area for the night bite.
Has anyone else experienced somewhat of a respectable bite as well?

A couple years back we had a great Midday bite up on the sand in early November, My son and I pulled blades and crawlers. We caught 11 fish with 10 nightcrawlers in less than 2 hours.
Haven’t got out to try it since and haven’t seen many boats out during the day the last few weeks.

I would not be afraid to run smaller #5 shad raps in those same areas during the day. That presentation has put a bunch of jumbo +10 inch Perch in my boat this fall. The craw (brown with orange belly) pattern has been best for me.

A couple years ago, we arrived very early one day and caught a few in the rocks during daylight – nothing spectacular. We were really killing time prior to sunset and the lake was like glass so we figured we’d do something really off the wall… we headed out to the flats and caught several nice ‘eyes trolling reef runners. I haven’t tried a late fall run to the flats since. I dunno why. It just feels weird to me to be out there at that time of the year, I guess.

I agree… I have caught more daylight fish on the rocks trolling cranks late in the fall compared to earlier – with warmer water temps.
