Finally, some good news to report from Mille Lacs! I spent a short 5 hr day on the lake today w/ my dad and brother. Since the goal wasn’t to bring dinner home, we decided to concentrate on live-baiting the mud and/or pulling cranks for suspended fish away from structure. Needless to say, our trolling rods never came out of the rod locker.
The first flat we looked at had bait pods everywhere…but no fish. The next flat we looked at started w/ the same, but as soon as we made the upwide side we found fish on top, on the edge, and at the base of the flat. Good sign! It wasn’t fast and furious, but we caught 12 fish over 4.5 hrs of actual fishing time. 2 slots, 2 in the 20″ range, and the rest 24″-26.5″.
