    I’ll blow your…….

As Derek reported the wind was a steady 15-25 out of the north-northwest from the time I arrived Friday afternoon till Sunday AM (When they say 15-25 I think they mean to add the two together for a constant 40 MPH) The “Power Loon” described it as “Breezy” Well, that breeze kept me off the lake Friday nite and all day Saturday. Even as the wind layed down on Sunday, there were still 3+ footers on the east side. There were a few gusts that had the ol’ camper a rocking!

I managed to get in a few hours of quality time trolling the rock shoreline around Big Point. The first fish of the morning was this fat 28.5 incher that smacked a #5 shad rap. (Also see video clip)

I had been trolling a Super Rouge for about an hour without any takers. Thinking I would downsize to see if I could get any of the jumbo perch to bite, I had just switched to a #5 Craw Shad Rap. No sooner than I clicked the bail shut, she hit hard.

I caught 3 more fish ranging from 19-23 inches yesterday morning. Averaging one fish about every 1/2 hour. I managed to get one of those hits recorded (See video clip) while screwing around with the camera.

Water temp was a 51.0 degrees Sunday AM as the sun was coming up and was 53.7 as I left the lake shortly before noon.

Listening to the VHF it certainly sounded like the guys who got out were putting fish in the boat. Things are setting up nicely for the next several weeks on the big lake. Spots all around the lake appear to be turning on!!

Glad to see you got into some fish Jon!
I went out Friday night and managed a dozen fish before calling it quits. They were there, it was just to much work trying to keep a crank in front of them. That wind was NASTY. Didn’t even attempt anything Saturday or Sunday.

RippinPigs, That must have been nasty out there Friday. Cold, Rain, Wind and zero moonlight…..Yuk.

Actually, I wanted to go but when it’s rough like that I prefer not to be out solo. I figured the wind would settle down, so I set the alarm for 2am. Still windy enough to shake the camper, so I re-set it for 4am….no go. Same deal on Sat night…. Oh well, I did get a lot of sleep.

Yeah Jon…. that wasn’t a night to go solo!!! I’ve had my brother with me the last couple of trips. He’s got the fever for a 28 real bad. He’s comming close, 27’s, 27 1/2’s, but no true 28″ yet. I’m the one catching those
Maybe sometime if we both have a solo night planned, we could meet up and take out one boat?

    Thanks for the report Jon.

    Great photo!

I now can lay back here in front of the fire place and not worry about what the water temp. is out on the lake! The wind is still blowing like a S.O.B. I’ll wait for tommorrow nite and see if this wind will ever let up? I have plenty of time to catch them there walleye! I havn’t seen a boat out front in some time………only the wind surfers!!!!

P.S- by looking at the back ground in your photo….I’d quess you may have been trolling a weed line????

No…really!! I was out on the point on the rocks. I had to come around the point to get out of the wind. No way to set up the camera/tripod in 3 footers. Not saying there are no eyes on that weedline however.

See you guys up there! I’ll be at the Red Door from the 10th to the 13th.

I’ll be spending Saturday late afternoon at the Blue Goose, if any of you want to join me for a beverage.
