A post recently mentions on more than one occassion a red craw Husky Jerk. I have been to Cabela, Gander, looked in their catalogs as well as Bass Pro’s and that color is not offered. Even had buddies in other areas looking for them….no luck anywhere. Have they been disco’d?

Yes, thats it. They’ve been discontinued.
You can find them around here and there in size 14 but not 12.

I’m going to dig through the clearance bins at the local stores for #12’s. I’ll just have to paint them myself. It won’t be perfect, but worth a try.

    Dr. Hook,

If a guy does enough snooping around to little bait shops here and there…you might be able to find a bunch yet. I would be willing to bet any retail chain store would be clean out of them a couple years now. I know that color has been on high demand ever since they discontinued them. Just thought I could save you a little time searching around. Another great alternative to this color and lure is the Super Rogue i nthe Lazer Craw color. Here is a link for you to take a peak at the color.

With a handle like Dr.Hook….who needs lazer craw anyways!!

I was just at Gander in Maple Grove, no lazer craws either. I’ll post some pics once I do my painting.

When you guys are painting these cranks, are you using actual paint or permenant markers? How exactly are you painting them? Just curios as I have heard about this but never have tried it.

I ended up fishing last night, so I didn’t get a chance to do any painting. I’ll be using a permanent spray paint, assuming I can find the color I’m looking for. I’ll brush on the stripes in black with some sort of model paint. I may try to seal/coat the lure with a finish once painted??

I don’t typically paint the entire lure, but do add a dab of color here and there….usually RED. I use the small bottels of Auto touch-up paint. These have a built in brush like fingernail polish and the paint is tough.

I’ve just started painting cranks a few weeks ago. I use an airbrush, Creatix paints, and then finish with an epoxy clear coat. Airbrushing is the way to go, but only if you are truly devoted to painting quite a few lures. You should be able to get by with spray paint/markers… but to have the paint last I’d suggest putting a clearcoat… otherwise after 1 good night… you may have to repaint! Another good option is using what Jon suggested… auto touch-up paint. MUCH less chip resistant.

waterfowler, Bombers and Spiderwire Stealth among other items recommended here recently sure fly off the shelves! I’m guilty of clearing the rack of all lazer craws from the Woodbury Galyans….

I just got back from Gander over the lunch hour. I think I’ve blown the lure budget for the month. I bought four muskie rigs, more than I spend on 10 walleye cranks….
But, I said I was going to give the muskies a legitimate shot this fall, heck I live 10 mins from Minnetonka. Can’t wait for the next paycheck.

I went to Fleet Farm in Lakeville on Saturday. I found some Storm Thundersticks that are painted in a Red Craw color scheme. They are floaters, but with some split shot, should get them down in the zone with a slow troll.

Anybody ever use these? (There were only three on the shelf and I bought them all…………sorry)

I found some Super Rogues in Lazer Craw at Fleet Farm in St. Cloud. Anyone want to share their experience in trolling these things? Speed / depth? Weighted or not? Mono vs. fireline?

Vacation starts Thursday….hoping for a little warmer weather to make the evenings more bearable (or, now that I think of it, big eyes will take care of that…..).

    Dr. Hook,

I would be happy to chime in here as I rely on the Super Rogues as a staple for my night time trolling strategy. With most of todays smaller diameter super lines or low stretch mono’s that are availible, these Rogues can be trolled to depths as deep as 12 feet. With this in mind, this lure can do both a shallow and mid depth trolls effectively. This time of year the suspending characteristics can be the difference in getting fish to strike or pass by as if there were no fish in the area. I like to switch up my rod actions with the rogues and let the fish tell me what mood there are in. Generally a nice 2 foot sweep (slightly faster than the trolling speeds) and then follow the rod back with a taught line. This is when most of the finicky strikes will take place. Vary the amount of “taught line” time to let the lure hang in the water column motionless. I find these Super Rogues to be incredibly versatile for these conditions.

Good luck to you with your Rogues~

    Hey Waterfowler,
Did you ever get around to painting those cranks?
If so, How did it turn out?

I have to admit, no…… I’ve got all kinds of excuses, but I”m sure you don’t want to hear them. I have until Friday to find the “right” color and get them painted. I”m in SD right now, so I’m not confident I’ll get it done. I’ve got to find an auto-store this next week in the Maple Grove area.

I picked up some auto touch-up paint at Fleet Farm.
Checker has a rack of it too.

I should give this Walleye lure painting a try. I have painted a few Musky baits, but not the smaller Walleye baits. I use an airbrush, and paints are auto semi- transparent metallic lacears colors. I’ll let you now how it turns out. Jack.

I painted a rogue and a HJ before last Friday’s trip. I hit a fish on the HJ two minutes into my first trolling run. I forgot the camera at home so I can’t post the pics of the fish or the lures. I’ll try to remember it tomorrow. I picked up a can of Chevy orange/red. It’s not perfect, but heck it caught fish.

BTW, I honked at you on Saturday morning after breakfast. I thought I would wing an empty coke can at you, but was afraid I might hit someone else in the group. It’s cool you volunteer for stuff like that!!
