Just got back home. Made a trip up to the Pond last night. Launched at 11:30… first fish on at 12:04… and never looked back. Ended up boating 22 ‘eyes last night, and lost another 10 or so, bad netting, lost at the boat, etc. Fish ranged from 13″ to 28″… with an average of 22″.
I wasn’t expecting much… as I arrived the wind was pretty stout out of the south. Reading James’ reports… I didn’t have much of a prayer of getting my speed down to less than 2 MPH. You know what? GOOD THING.
They were hitting at 2.5-2.7 going crosswind. The bite started somewhat shallow… 6-7 ft. I then moved out to 12-13 and nailed some more. To top if off…. there was never a lull in the activity… usually every other pass produced a fish. Color of the night? Clown Clown Clown. I did manage a few when the moon dipped behind some high clouds on a red craw.
The pic below is of the biggest to make it to the boat. To top it off… I lost one of equal size right at the net (hey… I was solo… whats a guy to do???), and lost another hefty fish under the boat.
What a night is all I can say. I’m going to bed…. as I feel as soon as my brother reads this… I’ll be heading back up.
Oh yeah… if anybody manages to catch a very large northern or muskie with a lazer craw rogue stuck in it’s mouth… please let me know. I’d like that lure back.
