    GLIFWC to survey Mille Lacs

Biologists with the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission (GLIFWC) will survey Mille Lacs Lake and Green Lake in Chisago County to determine the juvenile walleye population.

GLIFWC conducts these recruitment surveys to generate scientific data that will help in the understanding and management of fisheries resources within the 1837 ceded territory.

These surveys allow fisheries biologists to estimate the strength or weakness of the two most recent (young-of-the-year and age 1) year classes of walleye.

Lakes will be surveyed using electrofishing gear from Sept. 22 to Sept. 25. One or more boats may be present on the lake. Juvenile walleye will be targeted, but larger walleye and other fish species may also be captured. All fish will be released alive.

For more information, contact Joe Dan Rose, inland fisheries section leader, at (715) 682-6619 or Nick Milroy, inland fisheries biologist for the Minnesota 1837 Ceded Territory, at (715) 682-6619.
