there has been a great bite at sundown until about 11 and then things slow down considerably. James and others swear by a switch that flips at about 2-3 again so if you head out at midnight and are willing to fish late into the morning, you should be just fine.
The moon is rising well after sun down now and we’re seeing a very brief bite spurt right as the sun sets followed by a lull that last until the moon gets about 45 degrees off the horizon. Fish can be caught during that lull period but a noticeable up-tick in activity will be noticed once the moon gets up. Interestingly enough, cloud cover obscuring the moon usually has little impact on the timing and intensity of the bite… but that is a different topic.
I wouldn’t hesitate to start my night of fishing at midnight with the plan to fish until sunrise.
The fish gotta eat. Our job is to be there when they do.
