I see alot of you guy’s are trolling in or right over the top of the weeds. How do you keep from getting weeds on the lure. Do you just shorten up the length out or do you just rip the rod forward to clear the weeds off or do you just have to reel in often to clean off the lure. Whenever i get weeds on my locater, it’s not long and i have to reel in and clean the plug.
Thanks for any info. I have been catching fish but not in the numbers as you guys that seem to like fishing in the weeds.

YES, all the above to some extent.

    a. shorten the length of line out.
    b. rip it clean
    c. rarely bring in for cleaning, hope to make it to the turn around point.

Some nights those fish are tight against or in the weeds. If this is the case, especially with the stained water this year, keeping the plug in the strike zone is extremely important. I personally like to drop waypoints or icons on my trolling run when I find a major bend in the weed line. It allows me to fish it more efficiently after a couple passes.

When I get into the weeds, give the rod a really good rip(assuming you are using super line). This typically clears the lure after a few good pumps. You will be able to tell if the vibration is any different in the lure. Rarely do I have to bring in the lure. The weeds are frustrating, but right now they are key with the bait fish holding to the last standing weeds. As they continue to die off, the rock bite will continue to get better.

    Good luck up there!!!

What Kooty said. Weeds can be a pain but the fish are in there. Also try raising the rod tips when going threw them. Dropping the rod tip back to help get the lure threw them can help also. Try these things 1st before trying to rip your lures threw the weeds. I think some guys start riping the lures threw to fast and just end up sinking the lures deeper into the weeds.
