Heading up to the Big Pond thursday morning! Sounds like some fish are being caught so I’m getting pumped and can’t wait to get up there. Will be staying at the Red Door – sounds like we should be able to get out from there?

Wanted to see if anyone has any info on the day bite? I know most are fishing at night (I will be too) but would like to get out during the day as well. Also, any specifics on speed for the night bite or choice of lures or colors?

We will be up there Thursday – Monday so hoping to spend plenty of time on the water….only scheduling conflict is figuring out a way to watch or listen to the Cubs in the playoffs!!!! Hope to see some of you up there!

Darker color #12 husky jerks were working for us.

    Speed – 1.8 – 2.0 mph.

1.8 mph & Firtetiger, Black & Gold and Lazer Craw (Red&Black) or draker colors were the hot colors on the overcast nights we had. If it is clear out, don’t forget the mettalics (clown, blue & silver, T-Sahd, etc.)

    Good Luck!

    Mark,

I can’t help much on the walleye bite, but please let us know how you do. I will be up there next Thursday-Friday, mostly chasing muskies, but some walleyes too…I do have a solution for your Cubs game fix. AM 660 out of St. Cloud carries all of the Cubs games and should have reception on Mille Lacs. Or AM 1380 out of Brainerd might have the game if ESPN radio is carrying it. Good luck!

about half of our crew will be up, we plan on getting an approach to the garage poured on Friday AM, and search for some perch and maybe crappie, anyone have a secret crappie lake off the North end, or even some areas you have had some luck for the perch. Don’t need to disclose specifics, but if you pm me I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.

While most of our group had good luck on HJ-12s, my boat did far better on #7 bent lip shad raps. On Saturday night when it was cloudy and dark, bluegill, walleye, and perch patterns were very good to us. I’d say they easily took 20 of our 30 fish that night. When the moon was out, firetiger, clown, and blue/chrome were best.

    Good Luck!

Thanks everyone! Hope to hear a couple more reports before we take off.

    Anything going during the day???

keepcasting – thanks for the tip on the Cubbies!! Wasn’t real happy about the 9:00 game on Wednesday night when I’m planning to leave early on Thursday morning.

Stuart – look me up, I hope I have good news for you! We’ll have a tan Silverado with a black/silver Alumacraft TP 175 and a 150 Optimax on the back.

For a day time bite, you can try snap jigging with minnows on the sand/rock transition areas around Myr Mar.

I would have to agree – bent lip shads are great while the water temp. is still up. #9 firetiger and hot steele have been hot! Can’t wait for Fri and Sat.

    Good stuff! Thanks everyone!

Jack – anything going on slip bobbers in the rocks? Can a guy still get leeches?

You can still get leeches, and yes, you can still get a few walleyes on the rocks. Not many, but some. Your best bet is where the most waves are crashing into the shallow rocks near some deeper water. Try as shallow as 2-3 FOW.

Another option would be to try daytime trolling in the 15-20 ft. areas next to where you plan on night trolling. Those fish just move up and down as they want to feed, so there really isn’t any reason you couldn’t maybe pop a few during the day. That would also give you a chance to tune all your cranks for that night!
