Anyone think a little glow paint increases the chances at night on Mille Lacs? Thinking of trying a few Rapalas with and without the glow and see if it increases the bite.

I’ve played with glow paint, glow decals and cranks that had factory applied glow paint schemes. I’ve caught a few fish on the glow rattlin’ rogues and HJ’s that have been accented with glow paint but I’ve come to the conclusion that it isn’t needed and rarely aids the bite. More often than not it seemed to result in fewer fish when other non-glow baits were going strong.

It is amazing how well those fish can see at night with limited moonlight to work with. If you like to experiment I’d suggest small, subtle accents of glow color. I’ve had the best results with a half inch dab of glow on the tail and drawing a fine glow lateral line down the side of HJ’s.

Never tried any glow in the dark lures or glow paint either. Thought about it at one time but never got any farther than that. Now permanent markers are a different story. You wouldnt catch me with out them for trolling crankbaits. It is amazing what those fish see at night and how slight color modifications change turn a okay bite into a great one. A few lines added to the side of a lure or a dot here or there can really get them fish going at times. I was looking at a blue and silver rouge in my box saturday night. It had the top blue protion of it blackened out on a night a few years back where the guy I was fishing with was hammereing fish on a black and silver husky jerk. I didnt have any black and silver so I took the blue one, blackened out the top, threw it out there and started popping fish. For such a good bite up there night trolling those fish sure can be fussy at times.

I’ve used the glow baits at night and on some inland lakes I think they may spook fish. However, during the day right up till sunset, I will use them. My favorites are lighter colors on brighter days and the darker ones when its dark.
When the skies darken up like before a heavy downpour, glowblue/black can be super hot. Glow green which tends to look like a whitish green to me, tends to be good at early sunrise; sunset and overcast days. Yellow chartruese seems to be a good choice during the day.
However, I’ve never fished Mil lacs beleive it or not. So I can’t say for sure they’ll work there. It does seem that some places the glow paint doesn’t work, but I think its just matching the conditions at the right time. The only place I,ve seen the glow baits work at night with consistancy is Lake Michigan for salmon.
    Try them during the day.
