Hoping the lake got dumped on this week, it might not help raise the lake level, but hopefully sustain it’s current levels??

September 21, 2007 at 1:05 pm #609957Just out of curiosity, anyone know where Gauge 00065 is on the lake?
September 21, 2007 at 1:11 pm #609958Judging by the map(not very good) on the USGS wesite it looks to be pretty close to the public access in Cove Bay.
September 21, 2007 at 2:09 pm #609979More lake level data from the Mille Lacs Messenger. Could be worse I guess…. It was 5 feet lower than it is now in 1936.

2007 measurements taken from Cove Bay public access on the south side of Mille Lacs Lake by the U.S. Geological Survey.
That was at the end of the dust bowl years, and before the Rum River Dam came into use, which raised the water about another 4 feet once the lake came back up.
FYI, the shallow flat below the scenic overlook in Isle Bay was a potato field during those dust bowl years. You can still see the rocks that were piled up along the bluff side of the field early in the season.
September 21, 2007 at 9:43 pm #610094as I recall reading, the north side was good for pheasant hunting, where there is water now! That just is mind blowing!
castironkidPosts: 34September 24, 2007 at 11:33 pm #610787I drove into the Cove Bay access about a week ago looking for the gauge but I didn’t see anything that looked like a gauge.
September 27, 2007 at 5:19 pm #611551The guage is back giving readings. Looks like the lake is up a little!!
