How are they biting?

We managed to get 3 on Sunday in a couple hours on rock piles in the south end. Super Flukes and Tube Jigs have been the best bet.

Never ceases to amaze us how it always seems like they bite after you get a tangle on the cast or while untangling the kids line. You pick up your pole, give it a jerk and there they are.

How long does everyone give the smallies to bite when jigging?

Any other hot baits folks are using out there?

The north end of the lake is kicking out great numbers of fish right now. Lots of different year classes. Some small fish and some giants.
Topwater bite was good on Sunday, both skitter pops and skitter walks produced fish! Nothing on Tubes, senkos were working good also!
If your not getting bit in a very short time its time to continue on down the reef or shoreline your fishing. These fish are very aggressive now and are a blast to catch. Keep moving and keep switching baits.

    Good luck

    Calvin,

Thanks for posting a reply, we need to get the Bassers talking on this lake. I’ve moved to Walleye in the spring and Bass in late summer and fall. Also getting hooked on the idea of a big Muskie. However, Grifter is going to tempt me again with the deep trolling for eyes. It’s amazing to see how few boats are about right now, there is so much to offer on this lake, I don’t care what the slot is.

Grifter! Thanks for your reply and welcome to the IDA staff. Your approach to sharing defines what forums are all about. Share some, gain some. keep it up. As I continue to learn, I will share as well. Thank you also for your help in the cities this week and also the offer to take myself and my AZ friend on the lake for the deep Walleye.

Anyone in IT needing top notch .NET developement help should give Grifter a call, he has top notch talent available to help!!! He has helped my team in several occasions.

Looking forward to next weekend Grift, remember the 24th – 26th. You let us know, we’ll report to the launch at a moments notice.

There are very few people on the lake right now, that is for sure. I have been running into a lot of smallies while up there hucking baits for the toothies. All of the smallies that I have run into have had one constant thing in common. Transition from rocks to weeds. The fish are in the weeds, but very close to rocks. I have found a lot of spots on the rocks that don’t normally have weeds on them, but this year I am finding small patches of weeds, no bigger then the lenght of a boat or two, and they are loaded with smallies, and big ones. I was just up there on Tuesday and they were all over our muskies baits, we got a few fish in the 20-21 range. We also saw a lot of fish as well If you are looking for a great smallmouth bite, it is going on right now and you will have the lake to yourself

Bob, can you share any location ideas for a bass guy just learning the lake. If not I understand. I have been fishing the SE end of the lake, not much weed on rock down there. Any help appreciated.

Thanks for the info guys. I am hoping to get up there for a couple days next week to fish, I will let you know how i do.

    Bob-
We are heading up there this weekend for a ‘guys’ weekend. Same place on the West side, stop by. I am sure there will be plenty of dinks available.
I have off next week, care to share your spots??

    Talk with you soon!

I keep hearing about the Muskie guys catching them on Muskie Baits. I have yet to catch a Smallie this year when throwing any type of spinner bait. Everything has come on jigs and soft top water baits.

As far as spots go, I used to laugh at guys when they would say just jig tubes on the rock piles. But it’s true. Concentrate on big rocks and let it sit still once in awhile. Find a buoy and jig, if nothing, move on to the next bouy and so forth.

Now I’m thinking about the rock piles that hold weeds. Hmmm.

Also, thanks for sounding in everyone! Let’s get the bass forum moving.

Here is one that came on a big blue spinnerbait off of Brown’s. Rock and weeds. There are also some nice fish in Vineland just on the south side of Indian point where the transition starts from the rocks into the massive weeds in the bay.
