Mille Lacs muskie reports???

Anyone having any luck with the Mille Lacs muskies?? I have put in 32 hours so far on the big pond, and I still have not caught a single muskie. I have had only one actually hit my lure, but I missed it because I didn’t get a very good hookset. I have seen a ton of fish, and some very big fish, but I just can not get them to go on anything. I’m just wondering if anyone else is having better luck out there because I have not heard many good reports up there so far this year. Thanks for any replys.

par for the course my good man.

Spend some time at night, and away from people… there is a ton of water out there…no joke you can catch in 1 foot to 35 feet!
just keep pluging and as we get more towards fall they will begin to commit more.

Thanks for the reply bucky12pt. Just to let you know, about 18 of the 32 hours I’ve spent on Mille Lacs this year has been at night, while the other 14 hours was spent at either prime time morning or prime time evening, with only a few hours spent trying late morning and early afternoon. So you could say that I’ve totally avoided fishing from 11 a.m. until about 6:00 p.m. I totally agree with you though about fishing at night and away from the crowds, and I have been doing the night thing, however, the getting away from the crowd part can be a little tough sometimes. I have not seen many of the musky guides out there my last two trips, so that could mean there hitting a totally different side of the lake, or are fishing a different lake entirely?? I have been mainly fishing the north end of the lake and not only have I not caught a muskie, but I have not seen anyone else catch one out there either. The feeding windows are extremely small right now and its critical to be at the right spot at the right time, with the right lure.

AFTERNOON, NOBODY ON THE LAKE BUT TWO WALLEYE HUNTERS.
    I LOST ONE AT BOATSIDE – PRY 46″ – 50″

Just got off the water sitting in Hunter pt right now.

couldn’t take the bugs, looked like another hatch tonight with “cloud” over the tree tops at dusk

elbow was locking up so I trolled from myr mar to knox and back

    zilch!

lots of boats came out after work up there 12-20 guessing

more muskie than walleye guys on the water these days.

the wind switch this afternoon was key for me seeing fish.

didn’t see anyone getting out cameras or nets.

if the wind is from the north again I’ll be on the south and west side tomorrow.

Nice work musky hunter. Good to hear someone is having some luck chasing muskies up there. I’ve trolled that north end a lot with never catching a muskie, but I’ve always believed it has to work sometime. You said you were trolling deep crankbaits in 20 FOW, so does that mean your crankbait is running 1-3 feet of the bottom? I’ve tried trolling a 10 inch Jake up there, and when I troll slow it runs about 8 feet down, and if I increase the speed I can get it down about to 20 feet if I want. Good luck this weekend if you go.

There must have been at least 3 foot waves out there yesterday. I was considering fishing Mille Lacs yeesterday until I realized how windy it was going to be, lol. So, I hit up a smaller lake yesterday and only had 1 follow. With the front moving in, I thought I was going to catch 1 for sure. Topwater lures just are not working this year, that’s all I got to say. If you go to the west side, supposively some guys form Green Bay boated 9 muskies in 5 nights last week, and I’m guessing it was Vineland Bay because they used the boat landing by the casino. Good luck.

    Guys,

I was up on Monday and saw several fish on the south end. I didn’t get any to hit, but that’s all part of the game. Isle bay and Wahkon were the main bays. 4 fish were piggies, we just couldn’t get them to hit..

Come on guys, lets hear the reports. I know you guys have been fishing up there. I have not been up there for two weeks, so I have nothing to report. I have not heard of anything going on for the most part.

Hammernick crushed them again. Now has won the tourney two years in a row, like its too easy. Crushing 5 muskies on day 1, which basically meant he won the tournament after the first day. I believe he fished the north end.

Pretty good, and most of em were probably over 50″. Just wait that lake will be on fire for 50s in the next few weeks. And getting even more girth every day than they already have. Its go time out there now. Get ready for the new state record by one of the bigtime guides out there.

Hit came on a 10″ “ghost” jake doctored with some “salmon tape”
Both follows were on a orange and black bucktail.

Two friends went out the other night on the North end. Very slow. Saw some fish porpoising, but nothing following/hitting. They threw everything in the box, but just a slow afternoon/evening…

Caught 1 small 40 incher yesterday and lost a bigger fish, and had one other rip that I never got the hooks into. Had some follows too, but most of the action was all within about an hour. Fished the rocks on the SE end.
