OK… so I’m heading up to try for some big boys Saturday. I’ve fished it before last year, but only 2 times. Saw ’em… but that was it. Best luck was on Silver/Black Bucktails. I’m bringing 3 rods… how would you guys rig up?

Yes, I have all the needed gear for those toothy critters… just looking for comments on lure selection.

The Muskie boys fishing the tourney last week say that your best bet would be your bucktails, a blk/org Stomper, 7 1/2″ Phantoms, Shumway Flasher or Funky Chicken.
I know guys have been trolling #18 blue and white pencil raps on the north end behind boards and having good success too.

Thanks for the info Hooks! On the Shumways…. any specific colors? I’ve only got 1 of each.
I’m going to be hitting the SW side… I’m guessing that area was hit pretty good with the tourney. Might try the north end, if the wind is right.

    Red!
Matching the hatch has not been a real effective approach for fish on mille lacs this summer.
Bright colors have been getting the instinctive strikes.

I know a good friend of mine that has been burning smaller white bucktails up there when you have some pressured fish and been able to trigger a few fish to go? Worth a shot?
Just a matter if your arms can hold up to the abuse all day long of high speed crankin!
I know back when I use to chase muskies on the big pond, Jackpots consistantly got fish to show interest? Sometimes the windier the better for the Jackpots!

    Good luck!

You got it Kid, a #18 floating rap.
I don’t know why, but I’ve always called them pencil raps.
You may want to have a few of them handy, sometimes one toothy critter can destroy them. but usually will last two.
