Let me first type in a little disclaimer. I am not intending to break anyones spirit here, this is just for fun. I was having a little Henry Rollins-esque rant today and thought we could use a little humor. I have edited it for the purpose of posting on here. Full Version is available by PM’ing me.

    PLEASE DONT TAKE ME SERIOUSLY…..EVER.

    1) “Big Pond”, “The Pond” – It’s called Mille Lacs, quit ruining a cool name by trying to be cute. Dont call a 132,000 acre lake a pond or even Big pond, YES it is big, thats why its called Lake Mille Lacs (Thousand Lakes). Go back home and disrespect your potholes you call lakes by calling them ponds.

2)”No-Mans-Land” – uhhh Gaawwd, its the BASIN, say it with me BEY-SUHN. And I know lots of “men” out there, myself included, we are men, we are there, so were you apparently. Its no secret, again quit trying to be cute…..you fished the basin, and you arent the first nor was I so quit acting like Will Steiger and learn the word BASIN!!!

3)”Feed Bag” – Here we go…You caught some fish? sweet. They were biting huh? You caught a lot of fish? Nice, good job. Fact, most fish eat every day sometimes more. What you did was find some active fish that were willing to bite on your schwag presentation, yeah I called your setup schwag, so they must have been hungry to eat that mess. But what the heck is a “feed bag” and how does a walleye “strap on” one of these bags, I would think that the walleyes lack of opposable thumbs would make it difficult to attach said “bag” to their bodies.

4)”Red hook and glow bead” – NO KIDDING!! THAT WORKS? Wait, let me guess….you got a 24 incher? DINGDING!! This setup is about as obvious as having a motor on your boat and putting gasoline in to run it. I sure hope magazine editors and guides find it unnecessary to even print or type these words ever again. I am not impressed with your fishing knowledge, especially now.

“I’m heading to the Big Pond, word is the eyes have been putting on the feed bag out in no-mans-land, buddy was out fishing on Saturday with a red hook and glow bead and landed a nice 24 incher”

    “I’ll kill you”

    “What?”

    “nothing……”

Cute people call the Atlantic ocean “The Pond” (especially people from England.) And Mille Lacs is a very small pond by comparison.

And mentioning Henry Rollins in a post here?????? That has to be a first. I can understand Terrible Ted popping up every now and then, but Henry Rollins?

One thing i cannot understand is why muskie guys refer to every muskie the catch or see a “HER” or “SHE”. Example-I have a follow coming “SHE” wouldnt eat the bait. Or-Did you see “HER” chase that bait. Why is every fish referred to as a “HER” or “SHE”. I just dont get it?? Anyone else wonder why??

Because the majority of the skis guys see or get excited about are female. Most muskies guys could care less if a 34″ doesn’t bite.

“Land of 10,000 Lakes” is just our motto and was probably established before we knew exactly how many lakes we have. MN actually has 11,842 lakes over 10 acres that are capable of producing waves (according to the MNDNR). What constitutes a lake in WI? That’s right, WI’s number includes one acre ponds (link). FYI, MN also has over 4,000 sq. miles of inland water verses WI’s 1,600.

I know it’s a tough pill to swallow considering the WI motto, but you cheeseheads don’t need to try so hard to find reasons why your state is better than MN. You have the Packers.

Good thing this thread is related to fishing because there are way too many phrases that people use everyday that I can’t take anymore. Just be glad you haven’t seen any of the fishing phrases on a bumper sticker.

The one phrase I often hear from fisherman describing the weather after a front has moved through is “bluebird sky.” I guess it’s not the actual phrase, but more of its overuse. I was at a muskie seminar a while back and every speaker used this phrase at least once. It got a little annoying after the first guy said it several times.

I use the feminine her/she for all the fish I catch, because I don’t want to be known for being crazy about chasing and catching hims!

This is very simple……..women get me excited, make my knees shake, make me do stupid things, also make me angry, make me babble in tongues not heard for over 2000 years……..cuss and swear and venge to never return……but I’m a glutten for punishment, so GIVE ME MORE!!!!!!……..

Okay, I had my first of millions of trips to Mille Lacs back in 1967, the year I was born. My Grandma and Grandpa sold their farm and retired to a place on Mille Lacs. By the time I was old enough to remember, everyone in my family called Mille Lacs the “Pond”. It didn’t feel cute and trendy when Richard Nixon was in office, and it still doesn’t now.

Back in the 70’s , nobody fished “no man’s land”. It was common to find a flat, and drift over it repeatedly. It was thought the best fishing was on the top or edges of the flats. If we strayed too far off, my Dad would say, “reel in, we are off into no-man’s-land now.”

I’ve got lots of memories and nostalgia about my early days on the pond and avoiding no-man’s-land. I choose to keep it that way.

I love AND use “It is what it is” when delivering not so good news to someone. It’s the nicest way I’ve found to say,,,,”I know it sucks, but there’s nothing I can do about it”. I’ve yet to hear a quality response to that!

When someone says…”To tell you the truth….”

What? Everything else you said are lies?
