Last year was our first year on Mille Lacs fishing Smallies, got started for them late in July.
We had varied success with Tube Jigs and various “soft” top water rigs. Some good days, some not so good.
We focused on rock piles and would work the sides and big rocks, and occasionally throw on top and find them there, sometimes several at a time. This seemed to work good all the way through fall.
We have tried a few short trips this early summer now trying the same patterns and came up with a couple on the rocks. But after watching others on the shorelines/docks I gave it a whirl and had several rise on top water but didn’t get any on.
What have others found as the patterns they have used throughout the year for smallies?
I’ve heard things about being on the beds in the spring…
This Walleye guy is just trying to pick up a few tips.
Thanks,
