This was emailed resently and I thought some of it was interesting….”We have caught enough walleyes
to reveal that nearly all walleyes survived being caught and released
(at least for 5 days afterward)”.
Here is the complete email from Keith.
Summer’s here, it’s still time to go fishing! Please consider helping
catch some walleyes for the hooking study on Mille Lacs Lake. Our crew
works from Wednesday through Sunday in the evenings, but if other times
and days work better for you, we may be able to accomodate requests for
day trips or trips on Monday and Tuesday. We have caught enough walleyes
to reveal that nearly all walleyes survived being caught and released
(at least for 5 days afterward). We need more fish to look at
differences between methods, water depth, temperature, fish size and
other factors which will help anglers to decide when to keep a fish and
when to release it. This is especially important during the warmer
summer months.
If you are interested, please respond to this email or call me. Thank
you for considering this request.

I have spent some time trolling and running around the lake this week. I have seen some dead fish floating mostly tullies that normally die this time of year due to the warmer water. I have noticed a few walleye…..but not many.
It will be interesting to see where our DNR goes with thier findings?
