Just bought a place at Mille Lacs Island Resort on the south end by Wahkon. I am very experienced at fishing flats and gravel in June and July but not so experienced at early season fishing. Could anyone give me some tips on fishing the south end early? Especially bobber fishing or some possible locations for lindy rigging. Or should a guy just trailer and go north? Any help would be appreciated.

Hook up with Bruce B here on IDA. I was just with him at his place at MIR. He would be happy to share some local spots around there!

Many good rock piles, Islands, and shorelines from there to Izaty’s, and east to Father Hennipen and points north from there.

Thanks Chris just sent him a shout. My early season has entailed many trips to Winnie over the past 10 years and will now spend my time on the big pond for memorial weekends for years to come. Still open on Winnie and early June. The fishing is also tremendous up there so if anyone needs some hints for that lake would be glad to share.

    gus,
you will need to learn how to bobber fish, there is a lot of bobber fishing spots on the south end. i also troll cranks along the bottom of the break around the structure. with all the rocks, lindy-rigging is tough. if rigging is your strong point, try using a splitshot on a small dropper attached to the swivel, this way, when the splitshot gets hung up in the rocks, it just pulls off of the dropper. this is my 4th season living on the south end of the puddle and haven’t even come close to cracking its full potential. good luck this year……………tom fellegy
