Well Friday was just too nice to work. I took the day off and decided to go slay some perch on the pond.
What a beautiful morning. I drilled 7 holes in a diamond shape from 24 to 29 feet of water and didn’t even get my spoon down to the bottom. The bottom came right up to meet it. I caught 16 perch so fast I started throwing 10″ers back. I thought it just didn’t get any better.
2-14″,1-13 1/2″,2-12″ and a fat 11″er. The bite slowed around 9:00 so I tried my second hole, a couple 9’s, next. 3rd hole 1-8″. Hmmm better head back on top. Nothin. Not even fish looking.
By 10:00 I started to worry. Where’d they go?
I spent the rest of the day and drilled 75 holes looking any where from 32′ to 9′ and only caught 6 shiners. Funny thing, I caught shiners every where I went or at least had them biting.
By 5:30 I was pretty tired and out of gas in the auger, so I headed back to those first holes hoping for an evening bite. What do I catch, more shiners. But right at dusk I ended up smacken 6 walleyes. Nothing big but definetly more fun then the bait.
I think I’m done for the year, at least on the Big Pond.
Any body got any suggestions where those things go, cause man it’s Sunday and I’m still tired.
