Hey Bob,
Your report sounds familiar!! My wife and I were up this weekend and we also found the daytime bite to be really tough. We did manage to pick up a couple trolling cranks out on Big Point from 9 – 11 pm Friday and Saturday. Nothing to get too excited about as far as size goes…..
The Mayfly hatch appeared to be normal, nothing overwhelming like that first bug hatch. And the mosquitoes have not shown up yet…at least not around my camper.
I also spent a few hours chasing my first Mille Lacs Musky. Nothing there for me, not even a follow. Did hear some chatter on the radio of a youngster getting their first Musky. A 47 incher that was headed to the taxidermist.
The smallie bite continues to be the most consistent bite for me. I have found a few rocks along a nearby shore line that I can pull a fish or two off every visit. I have been using what is quickly becoming my favorite jig. The H20 weedless superdoo jig. I don’t use superdoo’s however….I have been pitching K-Grubs and just about any color has been good. These jigs are hands down the sharpest jig out of the box there is. In most situations I have been clipping off the “Weedless” guards. The wide hook gap is perfect for the bigger profile plastics that I will be tossing from here on out.
Till next weekend….
