Love the webcam, but does anyone know what type of work was taking place on the ice in front Hunter’s Point? Earlier today there was a backhoe on ice and now the cam shows the ice all torn up. It almost looks like they dug a pit for all the melt water. Just curious as to what was happening.

I think they are dredging due to the low lake level.

I had heard from people up there that earlier in the week a piece of heavy equipment being used to dredge out the harbor went in for a swim.

Since were on the subject. I have been wondering how they’re going to go about dredging areas like castaways? That shallow sand goes out a LONG ways. Will they just use a excavator or is there a different method they use for these farther out areas? And, how far into the season would the dredged are last with the sand filling it in from wave action??

Was out to Hunter’s on Saturday and they had a lot of equipment out there. On the way back off the lake, we were eating some delicious food and a snowmobiler tried to drive through the freshly excavated area. Needless to say, his sled was 4 feet down on the bottom. I think all was well, however the emergency response made an appearance.

Hunter’s had roads to many different spots plowed out which was very nice. One piece of advice while fishing the thaw. Make sure you clean out your hole about three times before holing the auger through. I had a very tough time extracting my auger back out of the hole the first time. I only cleaned out the chips once on the way down and paid for it. I had to used vise grips to back out the auger. I also only had about an inch left without an extension. I would strongly suggest extensions! Sure would’ve made my day easier.
