The bug hatch’s start around Memorial Day Weekend and last off and on through July. They last sometimes around a week or so and we can have up to 6+/- hatch’s………..a summer!!!!

    Sorry!!

Bob’s right. Historically the week of Memorial Day is the big week. But it can be later or earlier, depending on ice out date and therefore how fast the water reaches 55-57 degrees. That’s when they come to life. So—it’s been the 2nd week of of June and the 2nd week of May. And like Bob said…there can be an ongoing series of smaller hatches throughout the summer. Especially at night.

The good old “bug hatch excuse”…..lol

So if history holds true, the PWT could be a bug hatch bite! All those trollers will sure be busy trying to keep their lines clean of bug casings if it happens that way!

    Bobbers might win another one!!

It’ll be funny, as usual, to listen to all the crying about the bite being “off” because of the bug hatch, which as you say Jack, should be at it’s PEAK during that event.

A FLAT and HOT weather pattern would sure be nice! Bugs…no waves…hot….OH MY!!!!

Seemed like last year there was a bug hatch every week all summer long….

I don’t mind the Maylflies, but those little tiny midges that get in your nose and ears….GGRRRRR.

Some of our best bites we ever had on the night launch trips were during the thickest mayfly hatches. Flat, calm nights out in no mans land.

Yes, I don’t buy in to the bite slowing during the hatch. Some of my best fishing in years past has been during the thick of the hatch. The hatch may have a negative effect on certain areas of the lake but, it’s a big lake with many different areas holding fish willing to feed.
