Hey, I am going to fish Mille Lacs starting wed. through the weekend. (man am I excited) This is my first trip to Mille Lacs. Where should I start to look for the walleyes? I am planning on staying at hennipen state park. I don’t want to troll if I don’t have to. I have a good map and a gps, so I should be able to locate the spots. I just need to know what the hot spots are this time of year. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Fishing during the day was slow this past weekend. The MTT tournament had some pretty dismal weights and fish brought in. I didn’t get out this weekend but talked to several that did. The bug hatch has the fish sitting tight to the bottom with full bellies. Not sure how the evening bite was, but that is what I would say is your best bet. Good Luck. Wish I could be more specific on locations.

Spent the last week on the lake and I wish I could put you on a “Go To” area…. As mentioned, the daytime bite was tough, especially for keeper slots. I averaged 1-2 fish every 4 hours or so in the areas I fished during the day. I caught most of my day fish pulling spinners/crawler harnesses. I trolled deep gravel (22-27 feet) on the south east side of the lake off Big Point. All of the fish were over 18 inches.

Interesting to note that the wind has been blowing out of the east-northeast for most of last week. Not a real good thing for the east side spots I like to concentrate on.

We got all of our keeper fish between 8-9:45 PM bobber fishing shallow rocks near shore. We got 1-2 keepers each time out. We only went out on evenings that had a good wind. The calm nights were just unbearable due to the lake fly hatch. Leeches out performed crawlers as all of our fish bit the leech….not one bite on a crawler while bobbering…???

    Good luck on your trip.
