Are you guys having an off year on the perch? It seems this year has been ok for walleye, not like last ice season which was great. But for perch it has been horrible for me. Last year, on every outing whether targeting Perch or not, I caught some. This year I have caught exactly one perch! With many hours fishing the same spots as last year, I found this odd and little scary. I love those ice perch!

They arent schooled up yet and putting on the feedbag. I was sight fishing walleyes last weekend. I had some Jumbos come through and just join my spoon like it was part of the family. No reaction, at all. This year has been odd for perch. The ones we have caught arent really puking up anything either. I’d say give it another 3-4 weeks.

I couldn’t tell you if it’s an off year for the perch since I haven’t been targeting them. However, I feel the walleye bite is as good if not better than last year! I would suggest trying some new or different areas for the perch. They just may not be ready for your same spots as last year yet.

not sure if it means anything or not, but 2 of the jumbo’s I caught at the GTG were puking up and still had smaller perch in their mouth’s.

I confirm its too early yet. End of Feb. will get them schooled up and fiesty. This year the perch fishing will be the best I’ve ever scene fishing Mille Lacs. Yes the numbers are there,..But the quality of the fish will be great. Don’t ever take for granted a 12 inch perch. I can’t wait either,….I’m sure we’ll see more than a few 2 lb perch caught this late ice. That is if the ice holds up for early March

I think it will be darn good late too. This year has been my best for perch of the last 3-4 years. Earlier on, we had been doing pretty good for them. It has since slowed down for us, but wait that warm March sun starts shining, it should be good.
