This might just be a dumb question..but what else swims in The pond besides muskie, pike, walleye, perch, pout and bass?
Are there any bluegills/crappies? I can’t imagine many northern lakes without sunfish and crappies, but there are no sub forums and nobody posts anything about them..Just curious..I am hoping to make a trip up later this winter…
    Thanks,
    Cade

    Hey Cade

I was wondering the same thing myself. This last weekend is the first time I had ever fished it and I’m addicted. There is sooo much structure and it’s a pretty big lake. I can’t wait to get back (hopefully within a month or so)

I found the available species here Mille Lacs Fish Sample

Good luck out there and have a blast!

There’s some absolutely HUGE Rock Bass up there! They’ll eat a 3/4oz Tandem Spinnerbait with a 5″ K-Grub.

I’ve never heard much for blue gill,….But I’ve heard some people getting some dandy crappies,….So many options so little time,…..Save a bluegill, catch a walleye!

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

I really love crappies and gills, but trust me, we would be targeting the monster perch and walleyes….Just curious if there was anything else, since this forum is basically void of any talk of bluegills or crappies…With the size of the walleyes and perch though…I can’t see why one would get distracted by other recessive species…

I have also heard some pretty impressive stroies about the crappie in there….never caught one though.

Mille lacs has about 40 different minnow species along with a few sturgeon being netted over the years.

Mille lacs does have Bluegills, Crappies, and a nice Largemouth population.

I have marked some HUGE fish on the mud before on bottom. I have always wondered if the lake had a few sturgeon.

You dont..the st croix river has plenty of them.. only about 2 hours from deerwood.

As for sturgeon in Millacs.. I guess anything is possible, a few have shown up in east rush over time too. There is no population of sturgeon in Millacs.. way too many guys out there with meat(minnows/worms) on the hook year around to not be caught regularly if their was any significant population at all.

On the subject.. anyone list tulibees for millacs? I know of them, perch, walleye, northern, musky, lm&sm bass, sunfish, crappies, rock bass, eelpout(burbot)

On one night trip last fall, I caught 2 sunfish at 2:00am. We were bobber fishing shallow rocks.

Back in the late 80’s, my buddy and I were fishing Pikes Point in the afternoon. We were slip bobber fishing the rocks for walleyes. We starting catching some large bluegills. Nice big bulls. Then a storm blew in from the east and blew our boat into the shoreline. After the storm passed, the gills were gone..

For some reason, walleyes dont favor them that much.

Mille Lacs also has dog fish. And you Iowa guys might be interested in the monster bull heads. The largest I’ve seen in my life.
