Tuck they havn’t been updating it lately.
Well guy’s with fishing, guiding, and blowing snow….been down for a day with out IDA also
Here’s the scoop:
The flooded water in most areas that I have been in, has frozen. I have seen a few fish houses setting in water and that will be froze in if not rasied up soon. Hunters Point moved some houses and blocked others that were in trouble. The lake guys drilled holes to drain off some spots. There is a wheel house that went down out on the flats. What I understand was they were pulling if off the lake in the storm and got into a pressure ridge area and hit some bad ice. They are very lucky to be alive..They are going to get it out Wednesday.
I would suggest to have the resort check your house out, just make a phone call….they will do a drive by! If there are problems you can have them take care of it or make a trip up yourself. We have 18 deg’s here this am….thats good for freezing up some of that stuff out there….we need more of the same colder over night temperatures.
The fishing is still pretty good on hunters 2 mile and 2 1/4 mile reefs!! you can stay close to shore and still put fish in the bucket.
Ah common Steve. Im not looking for GPS coordiantes or anything. I didnt even imply that we should become best fishing buddies. I fish alone 99% of the time also. I was just wondering if you were doing any good, and maybe you could share some of your advise with a lowly novice fisherman like myself. If I gut hooked ya, I promise I’ll shut up and wont ask you anymore questions. Good Luck Fishing!
what a difference a day makes here on the south end!!! went out yesterday and was very surprized to find all the heaves were layed down and all the water/slush was frozen solid. there wasn’t mush snow on the ice, not real good for snowmobile travel. the temp her at 0800 was 14degs, so that will help the ice alot. i have a question about the wheelhouse that went down out by the flats, did it sink to the bottom, or is it lodged in the pressure ridge??? BTW we did catch a few perch yesterday, nothing to brag about, just some eaters…………..tom fellegy
I fish the first and last hour of daylight most days. I haven’t spent any time in mid-day fishy areas. Averaging two keeper walleyes per session this year. The bite I am on gets better as the winter goes on. February is my best month. No perch where I fish so I don’t catch any. Just walleyes.
Ask me anything! I either give a good answer or give a reason I can’t or won’t. lol

Sounds like the ice has healed up with the cool temps at night. I would assume the only trouble areas now are those where the big houses sat. Game on
Thanks Steve for the info. I’m feeling more confident already. Now I’m only 200 square miles closer to figuring this lake out.
Was wondering how much snow is currently on the lake? Looking for banking snow and was wondering if I should bring the ATV snow plow with?
Thanks!
lol You are thinking waaaay too much! THIS is Mille Lacs. Unlike other lakes, here we have fish virtually all over the lake. Lottsa of ’em! It doesn’t take much structure if any, to attract walleyes/perch here.
Amazingly, it’s common for Mille Lacs fishemen to go to “community” reefs/mudflats or the like, summer and winter. That said, keep in mind that the WHOLE lake is full of 1000’s of pieces of structure, that is going UNFISHED!
In this day and age, life is pretty darn simple on Mille Lacs. With the GPS maps/chips, there is NEVER a reason to fish within a 1/4 mile of another boat or ice fisherman. REALLY!!! Here at Mille Lacs, unlike most lakes, finding fish is easy. Getting them to bite can be a harder chore.
So….get off this big lake intimidating complex and go fishin’. No need to put up with others noise. No need to share the “dumb biters” with others. Just look where the clusters of boats/ice fishermen are, look at the map, and GO ELSEWHERE.
Like I said earlier this year. There is 103 miles of fish along the shorelines. And 100’s of miles of mudflat dropoffs. A little patch of rock, one foot high, the size of your truck, can produce dozens of fish. A sand drop off, miles from another fishhouse can produce dozens of fish. It’s quiet. And ALL the DUMB biters are still there!lol A little homework in the summer with the mobilty of a boat/graph can make the winter deal MUCH better too.
Where do I fish these days…and the past 45 plus years in the winter?(ALL winter) Here’s a hint. I have one hole in my house. It’s 2′ by 8′ by 8′.

No banking snow–that I know of unless you haul it from shore.

Hey Matt put your submerged tipups on one of those round life preservers like from the ss minnow. It will keep the tip-up out of the water.
Ahhh. Now were getting somewhere. Dumb fish for a dumb fisherman like myself. Thats what I’ve been looking for. Hmmm. 2’x2’x8′. Thats a mighty big hole. Sure your not spearing those walleyes? How does dynamite work for those non biters?….. Just kidding. Seriously,I’ll give your advise a try. Thanks Steve.
