    Guys,
Hopefully one of you guys that knows a little more about generators can answer this for me. I have been looking at prices and sizes of generators for my shack but I don’t know exactly what to buy. I would like to go as cheap as possible but I also want to have enough power to supply energy for use.
I am set up to run off of propane for lights and heat, but will be using the generator for tv, coffee pot, occasionally lights and microwave.
There is a 1000 watt at Northern Hydrolic for 130 dollars. Just hoping someone with “generator experience” can guide me in the right direction. Do you think that would do the trick?

Don’t know alot about generators myself, I have a small older honda. I would highly reccomend a quiet generator. I think you have to spend a little more to get that, but well worth it in my book. I like mine, but it is noisy and gets old listening too it. Even if you put a good distance away you will still notice the noise. Good luck

I think you have to add up the wattage of your appliances then you’ll know how big your generater has to be. 1000 watt generater might be ok if you don’t use both the coffepot and microwave at the same time. Here check this place out. http://www.brownandwiser.com/wattage_chart.html h

Well if you want any friends on the ice you better go quite. I had a guy last year move his house right in on me within 30 yds and had a loud jone. I asked if he would shut it off between the mornign and night bite and he shruged his shoulders saying, thats breakfast and dinner time….
Yeah well it is for the fish too clown!

My dad found the ad. I’ll ask him and put a post up.
No worries, One I wouldn’t move that close to anyone & I will look for something quiet. Nothing would make me more pissed than a dill hole like you described. Sounds like that guy needed to get a clue.

I use a Honda 2000 watt generator & have had it for 3 years. Wasn’t cheap but was well worth the money. It will run 12 hours on a gallon of gas and is quiet. Leave it in the back of truck with fish house attached and sleep in the front of the fish house. I also tryed running a RV Air conditioner with it and it worked fine. Wouldn’t recommend doing that very long though especially if youare running anything else. Never had aproblem with it yet.

I have a 10×20 fishouse with everything in it, and use a 4000 watt generator to power it on the ice as well as charge all my batteries after a day out in the portables. Anything that creates heat or cold eats your power supply.

As for the noise, I leave mine in the back of my pickup under the topper with the window up and park a 100 feet away from the house. If anyone complains, they are too close to your house and should find someplace else to fish!!!

When I go up, I power about the same amount of stuff as you discribe. But I don’t have a microwave. Toasters, coffee pots, hair dryers, (If you bring the better half along!)anything with a heating element in it, will suck a lot of power. The 1000 will be taxed to it’s limit. I run a 2000W Honda, at it is sweet. Run toaster and coffee pot at the same time. It will go full throttle though. Your T.V. may take a medium amount, but I would guess the micro will take the most power. Years ago, I rented a fish shack and it came with a 1000W Honda, and when you plugged the toaster in, I thought it was going to blow. That thing must have been turning 9000rpm! That’s when I figured I better go with the 2000W. and havent been sorry. It can also do larger tasks at home. I have run table saws and such from it, when I was building/finishing my shed.
As for the price, you will not find one cheaper than Total Tool, in St. Paul. They were $300.00 cheaper than Northern Hyd. But at this time of year, everybody is ordering one, and Honda will only send them so many. It took me a while to get mine, and I ordered one at about this time of year.Give them a call, you might be suprised.

Thanks for all the info. guys. We can definetly go without the microwave – not a big deal at all (probably will leave that in storage any how). It will mostly be used for coffee and occasional tv.

For what you are looking for The 2000 W. Honda Hands down. We use one at our deer shack. Will run 8 + hours on tank of gas and very Quiet it will run all of our lights, TV, Microwave,Coffee maker, range fan even runs a heater in the out house with no problem. We had years earlier used a 2400 W. Colman, Nice unit but to much noise and you had to keep putting gas in it about every hour.Go with the Honda well worth the money, unless you like the gas smell on your hands………BB
