Ice conditions on Mille Lacs

The access that I was using this last weekend didn’t look good today. The ice has opened up along the rocks on shore. The warmer temperatures and wind has changed the color of the surface a great deal also.
I hav’nt seen anyone out the lake since Monday.
I think I’m going to dump my minnows and call it “the end of ice season”

Time to look forward to open water soon!

I have been working this week down on Hawkbill point north of Isle. The lake has openned up around the south side of the point. I also have a large open span that runs close to shore in front of my house, out into the lake towards the northend. This crack is around 6-8 feet wide.

I would not recommend any travel onto Mille Lacs at this time.

I drove by Mille Lacs on my way home today. The ice/shoreline transition looked pretty solid from Garrison to Onamia. There was some water in areas, but they were few and far between. I don’t know if there are any perch in that area, but just a little FYI. Also saw about a dozen Bald Eagles at the Rum River outlet, pretty neat.

Heck, I can’t remember. Just put me down for the day it goes off. I’m sure I had guessed correctly.

No matter who guesses it, I’m gonna claim that “I was gonna pick that day!”.

I have no idea what I picked but the 27th sounds really familiar. Seeings how Bobber TOOK IT , I’ll have to opt out.

Okay, jokes aside……………I think I had one day later than Jon J’s prediction…………….if that helps determine anything.

BTW, what’d the winner get again? Dman’s boat?

    Ummm…………..I gotta go now!!!

I believe I had the 18th. How about an update Bob? She has to be getting black out there.

Well to be honest here, I was thinking of changing my date from the 27th………..but I didn’t.

There is some open water on the south end of Hawkbill point out of the Isle Bay! Out front of my house here on the eastside of MLL its breaking open with around 4-10 foot gap. Tuesday at sunset I watched two ATV’s come off the north end near Agate Bay. They must have had a make shift bridge setup to cross the break? It took them around 15 minutes to get over it. NOT MEEEEEE I felt good laying on the couch with the field glasses!

Easter weekend might be a closer bet…..

The creeks are running in Garrison. There is also open water in the bay. Another ice season for the books.
