IDA member Vida and I had to call it quits early. Sheets of ice were forming all over the west end. Nothing could be done to keep the baits down. Even tried three ways and the ice would just push the rig to the surface. We were off the lake by 6:10pm and boated one 24 incher that had our Salmo Perch completely in its mouth. Would have been nice to have fished all night.. 23 degrees when we got off the water.

if it gets nice like it’s supposed to, do you think it’d be worth trying over Thanksgiving, or is it too late? I’d love to try to get some perch. I just tried to fish on Minnetonka, and all the channels I checked were frozen.

Most definately I would try if you have the opportunity. It’s my understanding that it’s the ice and not the slow bite that puts the wraps on the boat. I think Derek and I would have had a very successful night if it wasn’t for the forming ice. If the forcast is correct, it should make for some great fishing.
