With one a week left in the Walleye season, many people seem to think they still need to run the middle of the lake to catch Walleyes. While you can catch some nice fish out there, don’t pass up on the shallow bite. Mille Lacs Walleyes will use the shallow water year round in search of food. Just last week we were sight fishing in 9 feet and saw many pig Walleyes circle our baits, although reluctant to bite, we did manage to trigger a strike, the girth on the belly was so large it wouldn’t come through our 8 inch hole. We removed the hooks from its mouth and slid her back down. We estimated that fish to be over 11 pounds.
