Full Moon Effect – November

I was just curious what everyone’s opinion was regarding whether or not you think fishing 3-4 days either side of full moon in November is typically as good as fishing around full moon in October? Or to put it a different way, have you found that having a little moonlight is less important in determining your fishing success on Mille Lacs as you start to get into November when the fish really start putting on the feedback? The reason I ask is that I have tried to plan a trip around November full moon the last couple of years but remember reading some good November reports last year without much moonlight. I almost think you are better off planning a trip in November based on weather report than worrying about whether there will be any moonlight. Any input is appreciated.

couldn’t agree more base it on the weather, you’ll catch fish regardless might as well enjoy it rather than get you butt handed to you by mother nature!

My experience has been the Nov moon has been better. If you can get the boat in that is. And the day bite on the sand can be hot until Thanksgiving.

    Greetings from Father Walleye,

I agree with Derek. I have experienced that walleye is more active before and afer full moon. In November of the last year I caught at Tobin Lake, Saskatchewan three 12 LBS. On Nov 8 – one 30,5″/12Lbs and on Nov 14 I caught two 12Lbs (30,5″ and 31,5″).
I have also noticed a good fishing before and after new moon.

There are other factors which are important to walleye fishing: the lure, tempature of water, wind and the place where you could expect them.
My favor tip is … JIGGING AND PRAYING

    Blessings

The November Full moon is better then Oct by far. Less Yahoo’s with no lights. Bigger fish, the weather is not as nice but who cares when your getting 29″ fish nightly.

The full moon helps but water temps is more important. For example… catch an early October full moon with water temps near 60 degrees and the bite is usually lackluster. Hit the big pond in November around the full moon with the water temps sub 40 degrees and the bite will also be tough at night.

Combine a full moon and water temps from 40 – 55 degrees and it is game on! Even without the moon we typically mop up the fish pretty good at those temps.

True dat! Especially the part about sub 40 degree temps and slow fishing. After she drops blow 40 I wouldn’t even bother makeing the trip up, nothing bites.

    Father Walleye,

Welcome to IDA. This is a great site.

Would sure like to see a few more pics of your BIG Tobin walleye you caught, I think it was 2 years ago. If you’d like them added to here, and need some help posting them, send them to me, and I’ll add them for you. And Congrats on a great Nov last year. WOW… Is that ice fishing yet that far north, or still cold open water???? thanks..
