Hey guys. I am taking my first Mille Lacs trip this weekend, 20-22. I will be staying at Eddies Hotel on the west side of the lake. What tips can you give to a newbie like me about this whole night trolling thing? Any special things I can bring to make the nights go smoothly? Thanks a lot for any advice.

I would guess by then the speeds will be down to 1.1 -1.4mph. still focus on the 6-8ft of water
I like bigger baits then too, the weeds should be all the way down by then and you can get by with it, or on the rocks it won’t matter.

some good spots to start are pikes pt, indian pt, myrmar, garrison bay, st albans bay.

I love the #18 originals in fire tiger, perch, crome shinner

just a gut guess from me this time of the year- toss your trolling bait out when you get to 8-12 ft of water and rocks-use shallow divers, follow the lakeshore around points;;- move out to 12-14 ft on the same soreline with deep divers and head back- it sure gives you time to see whats going on while settling in -checking and testing all your equipement before heading out to big water- and feel safe-the way the wind has been blowig the last 3 weekends and the weeds dieing out– shore line is a great adventure this time of the year but it takes a lot of patients – good luck!!! I would follow the shoreline first for a couple miles– after heading out of Eddies -head east but stay on the west side of the lake,– straight out from eddies I believe theres a sand bar from 20 ft up to 14-15 good drifting with leeches or minnows- always worth a try – hope this helps

If the cranks arent working for you. Try slip bobber fishing the deep gravel humps on the main lake out front of Eddy’s. The deep edges off Indian Point can be good as well.

    Hi Tony,

Not sure if you mean first trip this year, this fall or first trip ever? Anyway, I know you are an experienced boater so you should be ok. But if you get up there and your gut is telling you it’s too ruff, too windy or too much of anything listen to your gut and play it safe. The lake can be nasty and unforgiving this time of year.

    Good Luck,

10-4 0n the be careful. I would make sure you have a good GPS and preferably one that takes a lake chip. Please do not go alone if you have not been on the lake before. I would suggest arriving early and prescout where you will be fishing later in the dark. With no moon it can be as dark as the inside of a cat out there. Good luck …….BB
