Sorry this report is a little late but here goes. A friend of mine from Walleye Searchers and I fished Mille Lacs on Tuesday night in the nasty wind, rain, snow, and cold conditions. On a night when it was looking like we could get skunked we ended up doing fairly well. We started out on the north end and battled the wind and elements from 7 PM to after midnight with no success. We ended up trailering boat over to the west side though fishing south of Pikes Peak and managed to catch 15 walleyes from 1 AM to 5:30 AM so it pays to stay out later some nights. Brought home our limit of eaters and our bigger fish incl. a 23″, 25″, and a 28.5″. Best trolling speed was 1.4 to 1.6 mph and the best lures were #12 Husky Jerks in either Glass Perch or Firetiger colors. Probably 90% of our fish were caught with rod in the rod holder as the usual rod sweep didn’t seem to be working. I think that the fish were still there on the north end but it was too rough with the strong SW winds and brutal conditions so boat control was very difficult. Sorry no pictures yet. Maybe later. Can’t wait for the November full moon.

My catching picked upthat night also with leaving the rods alone. Running a little straighter pattern insteed of drastic S turn made a big differance also. This is half the fun of fishing this bite. Once you figure out the program for the night you are fishing the fish can realy turn on. If you dont figure it out you may just have marginal results.

Thanks for the reply Mike W. What the fish want on Mille Lacs does seem to change sometimes from night to night and it can be a challenge to figure it out. We were trolling shallow that night in fairly straight lines also. Like most people, I prefer to hold the rod as the vicious strikes from these fish never gets old but will do whatever it takes to get fish in the boat. Keep the reports coming.
