I shared my boat with my dad this weekend and I have to tell you I cannot wait for the next couple of weeks. We started out Saturday with the bobbers and leeches on the shallow rocks and had a tough time finding fish. We caught a couple of nice eaters and a 21.5′ that went back in the drink. Our plan was to cork up until the sun went down, and then to pull cranks the remainder of the time on the water. We changed colors, speeds, and crank baits, but could not find fish. We gave up and called it a night.
Sunday night will be a night I remember for a long time. We opted to sleep in Sunday moring and go out for a nice breakfast. We hit the water with the same plan as the night before, but did not pick any fish up until we started pulling the cranks. I had a Firetiger HJerk #12 and my dad had on a Black and silver #9 bent lip shad. We trolled a few spots with no success. We moved over some great rock humps and the action started. On our second pass over the rocks 5 to 9 feet, bam, fish on for my dad! First fish of the night, a hair shy of 25 inches. Great Fish I swithced up to smithwick rattlin rouge but nothing going. Dad stayed with what worked and I decided to follow. As soon as I put my #7 bent lip shad on, a fish damn near pulled the rod out of my hand. These fish were aggresive pounded the lures we had out. This fish hit just after a short pause in neutral. As soon as we started to accelerate again, that fish attacked that shad. After a brief fight I landed my first “real” fish of the fall. A nice 27 incher. After gettin the boat put back together after our chinese fire drill, it could not have been more then 15 minutes and shazam My dad had another great fight on his hands. This time we thought we had the wall hanger. However, it turned out to be bonus fish. We did not measure the pike he caught because I personally do not like to have the slimers in the boat, but I am guessing it went 10 to 12 lbs. We both stuck with the silver and black bent lip shads for the remainder of the night. Our trolling speed was 1.8 to 2.5, and I would say most our fish came in about 7 feet of water. After a lull in the action my dad locked down another one, once again just shy of 25 inches.
We ended up getting a few other smaller ones but nothing to brag about.
The company could not have been better, the lake could not have be calmer, and the weather was ideal. I expect the next couple of weeks to get even better. Lookin forward to it
I have pictures but I have no idea how to post them.
