Hey Guys. A couple of my friends and I are looking at going up to Mille Lacs for some night trollin over MEA weekend, which is October 19-22. I believe this is the weekend of the new moon. Will the fishing still be good at this time of the month and moonphase? Thanks for the info.

Lip Ripper (Rob Stenger) and I actually did this last year in September, and did really well during the “New Moon”. We actually fished rock to sand transitions and used rattling stick baits. We had to slow speeds down, (1-1.5 MPH) but the fish cooperated. You should do well if the weather cooperates.

We stay out and fish till we can no longer break the ice in the bays to get out to the main lake. We find that the fishing just keeps getting better. It seems the later it gets the less they care what the moon is doing… they realy put on the feed bag and get to eating.

Let it out till it hits bottom then crank up 5-10 feet.

    Bucky,
Last year with no. 12 Husky Jerks, in 8-10 feet of water, running 80-100 back worked great. the 8th Edition Trollng book shows that same lure down 8 feet, 90 feet back. in 9-10 feet of water, that lure is right over their heads where they are looking.
    good luck.
    Jack..
