Picked up a Minnesota version of Midwest Outdoors, sorry but I do not remember the name of the paper. An article in the paper about proposed size and possession limits for the 2003 fishing season at Mille Lacs caught my attention. Size slot limit, 2 fish 14-16 inches, 1 fish 28 + inches. This should make for some quality big fish CPR for the near future. Article stated that 373,000 lbs of walleye were harvested by sportsfishermen to date, October 2002. Leech Lake is now being considered for a similar size and possession limit according to the article.

Supposedly Leech will go to a 17-28 inch immediate release slot in 2004. I heard the reason for the slot was to increase the overall size structure of the fish. Interesting they want bigger walleyes…..the average ‘eyes I’ve caught on Leech were 20-22″ and there are 27 inchers (7 lbs) in there. I’ve never seen one on leech over 28 inches.
