Looks as if the DNR and the tribes have come to a five year agreement for Mille Lacs. The new propsed regs give a four fish limit per angler with nothing kept between 17-28″.If nothing else at least we will know where we stand for a period of time.I read this in the Star Tribune and it seems like the resort people were pretty pleased with the proposal.

Thanks for the update. I hadn’t seen that. I’m suprised that they would actually allow a larger range of fish to be kept.

Overall I think it is good news. I’m pleased the bands used common sense to go with the DNR proposal. I suspect fishing will return to normal, and when it does, the new regs will still be more restrictive than they were just a couple years ago and as recently as May of ’01.

I am VERY curious to see what poundages are taken from the lake next year. I would be shocked if it is a bite anywhere near as hot as it was this year.

But, when rumors of a closed season, closed portions of the lake, extended night bans, etc. etc. etc. were being thrown around, this is far better with longevity to allow the local businesses and tourists plan without all the uncertainty in the air.

I’m already looking forward to hitting the flats next year! Well, who am I kidding… I’m always looking forward to that.

“penalizes the state and anglers for exceeding the safe walleye harvest quota this year”

What does that mean? Doesn’t define what the penalty to the anglers will be. If people were mostly only catching fish that were not in the slot, then how was the quota exceeded? Because of all of the walleye that were supposedly floating everywhere? B.S. Glad they finally came up with a plan that everyone agrees on, though.
