Mille Lacs freezes over!

    The main lake froze over this afternoon. The conditions these past few day’s have been just right for this to occur!

    Today we had temp’s in the teens and calm winds. Tonite the forecast is for the low temp to be zero here on Mille Lacs, which should allow for the ice to continue to freeze….See the attached picture of the lake.

    My wife Kathy said that the lake was open prior to the walk she took with our dog Sandy. When she returned home and looked out on the lake it was smooth ice as far as she could see! I could’nt believe when I came by the lake this afternoon to see this occur…..

    Keep us posted for news on walkable ice… maybe by the weekend, yes? Anyone walking out on the bays and getting any fish?

    Bob, great shot! Looks like the surface of another planet.

    Since the big lake iced up, how are the smaller lakes in the area doing? I may be up this weekend to look at a 10X20 at the Wharf. Should I bring my all my “IceStuff”?

    Wow Bobber, great pic!
    I had to pull the pic up several times to see it again and again. How much ice does some of the bays have on it?
    Anybody been out just off shore at all.
    Makes a guy want to get out and check out some late open water season spots! Send a minnow down and “they will come”!

    Thanks for sharing

    Wow! I drove by Tonka this AM and it was looking like lots of the bays were frozen over and the rest of the lake had that “about to freeze over” look about it. It is amazing how fast a lake like Mille Lacs can go under the right conditions.

    I was fishing open water on Mille Lacs last December.

    That is a great photo.

    The only thing that could make that picture better in my mind would be a string of tip-ups just waiting to pop!!!

    I would guess it might be a good week before we get out here on the main lake. It might make an inch a night if it’s cold enough……The smaller lakes in the area have said to have between 2-4 inches only at this time. I was in the Nisswa area today and went by a number of lakes and have not seen anyone on the ice yet?
    GOOD NEWS::::::::::COLD TEMPS AGAIN TONITE!
