The fatest Mille Lacs Lake Walleye I’ve ever seen!

It may not be the longest or the heaviest, but this critter was so fat, with a belly so full that we could see the individual “lumps” of the creatures it had eaten right through its sides, that I just had to take a picture to share here.

She was only about 20″ long and hit a #12 HJ in 7′ of water. It hit light… barely fought at all. At boat-side it was barely able to move its tail to offer even the slightest resistence to the rod….lol I threw it back quick as I was certain it was about to “pop” YOY perch all over my boat!

The food shortage scare is over. Past us by. Solved itself while we were off worrying about it. Thanks heavens…

    James,

Seeing that tag makes me wonder how many of the fish youv’e caught this fall were tagged, especially the big ones?

We had two tags on Friday night, unfortunately we didn’t have a pen in the boat with us. If I remember correctly, they were both in the 20-21 inch range. This little guy/gal was probably the fatest walleye I’ve ever seen at this size. What I wouldn’t do to get one about 29″ that has the same proportions…..

James, you got that right. The scare is over….and I admit I was scared! Things did not look good this summer on the lake. Every fish skinny. Now all fat. Give mother nature a pat on the back…..or even say…..the DNR knows what they are doing???!!!

    Hope the trend continues.

I don’t put up much of a fight when my tummy’s that full either! LOL! I’m surprised that bugger can still swim!!! I mean, it looks like it swallowed a bouey!!

Now, I suppose I’ll have to save this pic and see how I compare after a Thanksgiving dinner!

I believe I had 14 or 15, not sure of the count at this moment as I kept some of the info, customers kept some of the info… and some fish we just tossed back w/o recording the data due to the lack of pen/paper, during my last week up there alone. Largest tagged fish went 25″ so no super big fish in my boat that had been tagged.
