It’s offical: Lakeside Resort is closing.

We have been hearing the rumers for years that HJ’s Lakeside had been sold. Well today thier customers started recieving letters to that affect. The letter was sent out Oct.14th and states that they will need to move thier fishouse,RV,camper or whatever off the Lakeside property as it is closing December 15th. of this year.
What I have been able to understand is that someone from the Chicago area has bought the property and is going to develop condo’s or townhouses. The lodge will be knocked down and all new structures built……..
That means some 200+ fishouses need to find new homes? I wonder what resorts are in a position to take on more business?

Well, I’m sad to see it go. I’ve heard many bad things about Henry and his boys, but never once was I treated poorly by them. Actually reminded me of some good ol’ boys from back home. Just a little tough skinned…..

I heard as recently as last weekend that the Wisconsin Band was the buyer for Lakeside. That’s the second source who has told me that. Anyone else hear any rumblings like that?

I heard the same thing yesterday from a friend who knows people that used to be at the resort. Their word is that the resort will be leveled with no new construction to be done. Time will tell.

There is an article in the Mille Lacs Messenger that talks about the deal. If you read closely “The purchase is contingent on Aitkin County approval of the development plans”.

Also sounds like this is a private company rather than the tribes. In other words, the land will stay on the tax rolls!
