Don’t forget about corking this time of year.

I know cranks are popular and one of my favorite ways to pop big Walleyes this time of year. But this is also my favorite time of year to fish Rainbow minnows under bobbers. When the wind is whippin and boat control is tough for cranks. Anchor up top on the reefs. I like to find the highest point of the reef close to the most distinct edge.

    Great Tip Derek,

Question, where is the best place around Mille Lacs to pick up Rainbow right now? Always have a hard time finding them this time of year.

I also like pulling Rainbows behind a spinner blade during the day in the fall.

Can’t wait to get back up.

    J.

Hello Jon, Todd’s Bait out of McGrath supplies most of Mille Lacs. I have found Rainbows at Lundeen’s Tackle Castle and Mileen’s Holiday both north of Onamia. Tutt’s bait in Garrison also usually has them as well. Small Golden shiners work as well.

    Derek (Dman),
Good to see you here….keep on providing us with great info on Mille Lacs. Jon

ps. Clearwater has been great, as of late, for trolling plugs after dark. Water temp is in the mid-50’s and dropping!!

Hello Jon, Yes, Clearwater is on a tear after dark on #11 orignal floaters. Lot’s of small stocked fish but they are still fun to catch.
